Advice Please
So I'm in the market for a new truck. I'm looking at a couple of 2013 fx4's. I'm pretty clear on what options I want, but the one thing I'm not "sure" about is 5.0 or ecoboost? Can you guys with experience help me out with which you chose and why? I'm not looking to start a pissing match, just curious in the pros or cons as you all see it. I don't plan on doing much towing, if any. If I were to, it would just be a lightweight camper. Thanks in advance!

EB is great for towing. Head over to f150ecoboost.net and scour that forum is you're looking specifically for advantages of the EB (post a message, the guys and gals there will fill you in, they're great!) I may be partial because I own a '13 EB but I love it. The response and power is more than the 5L v8 and just about matches the 6.2. I drove them all, including other makers. Nothing really compared to the EB.
You could go on and on about the advantages...but the best way is to drive them! Five a truck with the options you want (color aside) and then drive a V8 and then the EB. See what you like?
You mentioned little towing, if any at all the EB is the best option for that.
Good luck!

basically, just read around for a bit.
both engines are good. both engines will return decent fuel economy, and have decent power. cant make a thread like this without it turning into a mondo sized ****storm.

I drove both of them back-to-back TWICE on two separate days. I mixed it up by driving the starting with the 5.0L immediately followed by the EB. Then the second time out I switched it up and started with the EB. I gotta say, for me it wasn't close. The EB rules. But don't buy it for fuel savings. Buy it for the power.
The only regret I have is that I didn't try the 6.2L (they are hard to find). I have GM's 6.2L in my wife's Denali and I kind of wish I got Ford's version in my F150.

I drive both regularly. Mpg varies with a slight edge to the Eco most times. Power isn't too different unloaded. Loaded is when the Eco shines. Unless you will tow regularly drive them all and pick the one that has the options you want at a price you like.

Thanks for the responses guys. I guess my dilemma comes because I just don't know enough about turbos to be comfortable with them. I understand how they work, I'm just nervous about owning I guess. I'll definitely drive both at the dealer, and do a lot more research on the turbo setup.
As far as towing goes, are you guys running the standard 3.55 gearing, or did you step up to 3.73s or 4.10?

I have the 6.2L in my 2012. Love it. Fuel economy......I get around 14avg for my daily driving [some freeway some city} I get close to 20 mpg freeway with the wife and kids and 10-11mpg with a full load including 32ft tt. Besides one does NOT buy a truck for fuel economy.

basically, all other things equal, a 3.73 will tow more/better than a 3.55

I understand gearing, sorry I should have worded the question better. Since the 3.55 seems to be the most common gear set up, are you guys towing with this, or did you guys order/pick a truck with 3.73 or 4.10? If you are towing (I realize amount of weight matters, but generally speaking) is the 3.55 a complete dog? Like I said, I don't plan it often, but I just wonder for the 10% of time I may tow, is it worth looking for a different ratio, or would 3.55 handle ok?
