Default Trade or Not to Trade

Stopped by a dealer today to pick up some wiper blades and saw the truck I wanted to originally buy a 2013 F150 FX4 402A screw 157' ecoboost 4x4 all grey instead of the 2013 F150 XLT 302A screw 157" 4x4 grey with chrome I bought. Now my truck is pretty much mint except for a couple little scratches and has 34,xxx miles where as the the FX4 in question has 44,xxx miles. They were asking $36,xxx it has an accident on the carfax, and it was dark and i was unable to see if it had any marks or scratches but I am sure it did.

The msrp of my XLT was originally $47,xxx the FX4 $51,xxx Now I am not really sure how much 10,000 miles counts for, I told the guy it would have to be a pretty much wash for me to do it.

First question is am I crazy to give up a truck I have maintained and cared for to get a nicer truck I know nothing about as far a maintenance and care?

Second, is there any chance the dealer would go for a even or near even swap? and Third can I transfer my 150,000 platinum warranty?

Thanks for the help!

Go into the dealership and see!

My guess is that you won't get out of there for anything less then 10Grand difference.

My thoughts too but I think they're about 6k apart.

Yeah I hope so. I bet the first offer will be close to 10 and you will be able to get them hopefuly down to 6 or even less. Ya never know until you try!

In my opinion, I'd keep what I had. There may be a reason the other truck was traded in...or maybe not. Plus, the accident on carfax would bother me. Probably not a huge deal, but if the one I already owned had never been in a fender bender, I think I'd keep it.

I highly doubt they'll trade straight across, even if your truck is better. I once considered trading an 08 GMC for a really similar 06 GMC. My 08 had lower miles, better tires, and was in better condition. I just wanted to get rid of the AFM that the 07 and up GM's have. Mine had 72k miles. The 06 at the dealer had 90 something k. And they wanted $2500 to boot. It's been my experience, dealerships tend to think your trade in is junk and their used stuff is gold. And half the time it's the other way around. But it never hurts to ask.

Warranties are, in my experience, tied to the product not to the buyer.

Why would you want a truck with more miles and an accident, and no history? I know you like it but you really won't like it when it has a rattle you can't get rid of because of the accident, or one of the more troublesome 3.5 motors.

I'd bet they will settle on $5 difference. If I could do it for $3k and cash out remainder of ext warranty I'd do it

^this. If you are truly getting bored witj your truck, then you'd be better off putting that $6k towards a down payment on something NEW.
