Default 2011 Recon Headlights HID kit question

Just purchased a set of recon lights. They have apparently been wired to accommodate HIDs. So I am now in the process of finding an HID kit for the low beams. Probably will stick with the regular halogens for high beams (at least for now). I'm thinking I'm going to go with morimoto. On their website there are all kinds of different drop down boxes and options. I just don't know what options I need to pick. The bulbs are H1. Any knowledge and assistance would be helpful. Thanks!

Just get the H1 kit. I have that in my spyder lights and they work pretty decent. Since we use H1 lights that are NOT bi xenon you should just leave ALL options alone. Everything is set up on the page from the get go, just choose your color temp for the bulbs.

FYI you can't use HID hi beams without modification. The bulbs wont fit into the slot. The low beams will go right in without issue though.

What about the relay harness options though??? Is that HD relay 9005/9006 the right one?

No. You want H13 for your relay harness. That's what the truck uses.

Which one? There are motocontrolbixenon, and canbus. Does not look like H13 is available in the HD.

And then for the bulbs, there's H1: 3Five 6000K or there's H1: XB35 6000K. Which ones do I want? There's too many options on this website!

NO. Do not get that one. You will have a harness that connects to your H13 harness on your Recon lights. You need the 9006 default harness. You will wire your harness directly to your low beams (2 wires). This allows you to keep your halogen high beams. Essentially only your low beams will touch the relay harness. Having two bulbs instead of one in each headlight makes using the H13 impossible. Now if you want to cut off the harness adapter on your recon headlight (not your LED or halo wires) then yes you could use the H13. BUT you would not have high beams.

Needless to say this install is a bit more difficult than a true PnP kit. You will have to cut dust boots and cut some wires.

If you had a Bi Xenon kit you would use the H13 harness.

XB35 6000k is pretty much awesome. That's what I use as of now, and yes they are different than the regular 6000k bulbs. They have a larger capsule and run cooler. Light output is marginally better as well.

Alright! Perfect! Thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll have some more questions later down the road.

Hi.

And likley a lot more problems., as these were never designed to run HID capsules in the first place - the optics are all wrong.

I also would not advise running any harness where you have to cut into a new vehicle's wiring. I'vw seen dealers deny warranty work for less.

You'd be better off buying the connectors, etc you need and building a custom harness - both for reliability and ease of reversal. For when you finally realize you should have gone retrofit from the beginning and not wasted all this money, to end up with inferior lighting performance.

Recons tend to under-perform compared to even the stock housings with upgraded halogen bulbs. Same crap as Spyder and all the rest. And it won't be long until yer UV coating starts to flake off and yer heads start to yellow and haze up.

Everything you need is available from TRS. Harness build guides are on HIDPlanet.com.

Just tellin' it like it is - this is nothing new - it's common knowledge if you go look for it. So please do not get bent and shoot the messenger :lol.

Good luck!
