They can, but sometimes it's cheaper to just buy new sensors than to break down your old tires (unless they already are, to use the old tires on your new rims). If they reuse the sensors, they will need to sell you a 'tpms rebuild kit' (aka valve stem), which is on average $10/wheel, give or take, depending on the shop.

Yup, just expect to buy new valve stems for about $50 in addition to the labour price.

I'm sure I'm being obtuse, but I don't understand this. I'm considering swapping out my OEM FX4 tires and wheels (already mounted) with aftermarket Fuel wheels and tires (already mounted)... Basically, two F150s parked next to one another, with a jack on each -- and simple swap. Assuming both setups have working TPMS units, can the wheels (with tires mounted) simply be swapped, or is there something more to it? Thank you!

You might get lucky. Just this past week I upgraded to a tire/wheel package from Tire rack which included new tpms installed. They came to my door mounted and balanced. I bought a oem Ford tpms training tool with the set, but after putting them on I got no tpms error. The truck recognizes the new tires. I'm sure this isn't always the case though.

FWIW: I gave my original 2013 wheels & tires to a good friend after I lifted my truck last year.
(they have a 2010). We put them on the truck and they never had an issue or any prompts to ask for a re-train).
In my case.... no issues.
Also: I even bought the TPMS trainer tool & never had to use it on their truck....(though I always use it on my personal rotations)

Yes, 09-14 trucks have the same sensors and the wheels can just be switched over. Most of the time, the sensors can train themselves.
