Default TPMS sensor intermittently throws error above 60mph

Started to happen recently that driving around town I have no TPMS sensor issues then when i get on a highway or interstate and get above 60mph the TPMS system will show thats theres an issue. Then after I drive for awhile around town the issue clears and no more TPMS light. Is there an issue with the sensor on one of the wheels or the system itself and whats the easiest way to diagnose at home? Also is there a tool for the phone with the Bluetooth obd II scanner that i can use to monitor the TPMS system for each wheel?

Lightbulb

Possible causes for the issue
.
  • radio frequency interference
    • cell phone chargers
    • GPS power supplies
    • other aftermarket electronic devices
  • faulty, failing sensor battery *estimated life is 10 years or 150,000 miles

but why would any of that change and cause an issue after 60mph?

Magic? Do you have ANYthing plugged into the 12v on the passenger dash? Or a dash cam?

And yes, you can monitor each sensor separately with the correct equipment. Forscan can do it, probably other things, too.

If the sensors are OEM I'd bet $$$ the batteries are going dead, IIRC they only have a life span of about 7 years, going by your signature they are 8 years old.

Alright, thanks everyone ill check those things. I can use forscan to check what the pressure is on each tire individually?

Yes, I've done it. Although I forget if it gives an actual psi number, I think so.

Yes it's in the pids although they show 6 tires due to some trucks having dual rear wheels so you will see R/F, L/F, R/R inner, R/R outer, L/R inner, L/R outer. Select them all as I don't remember which ones are for the single rear wheel axle. You will know as one of each rear will show 0 psi.

Had two newer tires installed on the front and had the shop check the sensors. He said that all of them looked fine(since they reported back rather quickly still to his tool) and could be PSI related since truck door jam sticker says 40 and they were at almost 50. He lowered all the tires to about 40 and said if the error comes back to try come in with the error still up. I will also try to catch it with forscan.

You didn't say what's plugged into the dash. I've never heard of sensor problems because the psi was too high, is that even possible?
