Default TPMS Fault - How long do they last?

Hello All,

Just had my summer rims and tires put on a few days back and a message came up on the dash for "TPMS sensor fault". I've had these rims and tires for about 3 years now....so is it time to change the TPMS in each tire? Wasn't sure how long they lasted. Also, the TPMS fault never came on this morning, so I'm not sure if it's just a faulty sensor or they're all going dead. TIA.

Drive 20+ miles. If it comes on after that, you have a problem. Battery life is 5 to 10 years.

Thanks for the info! Are they a pain to replace?

You cannot replace the battery, the entire sensor needs to be replaced. They are quite easy to replace, any tire shop can pop them in quite quickly.

I'll bet you hadn't driven 20 miles when the fault came up, then you did, so it's gone.

Yup. And you do end up having to get new ones, shop eBay as they're cheap there for OEMs.

That's not bad, I'll keep it in mind if the issue comes up again.
