Thanks for all the replies. My truck is a 5.0 Screw, 3.73, LT 6ply tires, factory TBC, 10500lb rated hitch, HD Shocks. Factory window sticker says "tow package".
Now, after I started this thread I did find another thread here that someone posted a ford spec sheet showing all the different configurations. M
The only difference that I could tell between tow and max tow was mi e doesnt have the big tow mirrors. Both say upgraded rad, aux trans cooler.

only difference is if you have max tow you get 3:73 diff gears and with just a tow package you could have 3:55 or 3:73 then theres the upgraded bumper it's a different hitch. look at a max tow and a reg tow the max tow hitch has welded end caps that cover the ends of the tow bar and is part of the bumper. where as just a tow package hitch has no welded caps on the ends of the receivers ends and is not integrated to the bumper. last myth tow mirrors and TBC are options in a reg tow package but max tow has the TBC and mirrors are still just a option in all years from 09 till now.
reg. tow package can come with out the TBC and it can be added if you have the 7 pin plug but if you only have the 4 pin flat it will need two more wires to be ran to add the TBC.
as for the leafs springs they are the same with max or reg tow and the same with the shocks.

some one at my ford dealer told me max tow has a different program in the PCM so when you hit the tow haul button it sets shift points to a second higher rate of hold for a bigger load. the guy who told me this is a second year service writer so who knows if hes right or not.

I recall reading somewhere that with out max tow pkg you can only tow 5000lbs. can any one confirm this? If this is the case how many are over weighted?

I believe that all F150s are limited to 500 lb tongue weight without wdh. This often translates to ~5000 lb tow rating due to ~10% tongue weight which is a common figure.

My 2011 max tow came with regular mirrors.
FWIW, I insisted on max tow for the 450 lb bump in legally recognized GVWR. This ensures I can do everything I want to do and not get in trouble with the **** popo if I ever tow in B.C.

Plus I like my gears short.

My 2011 was 'optioned' with the 3.73 Ratio Limited Slip Axle 6800# GVWR Package and Trailer Tow Package and it's still fast with a race weight of 5,390 lbs. For a 1/2 ton RCSB 4x4, it's all I'll ever want or need for pulling, towing, hauling, or haulin'-***!

I'm surprised no one mentioned the different steering ratio for max tow.

Yes 20:1 for the Max Tow vs 17:1 without
