All I cared about was the end of downshifting and gear hunting. I sold the 5.3 for the Titan and eliminated the endless downshifting. Now with the 5.0, I'd say it's very comparable to the 5.6 nissan. Of course I lock out 6th and tow in 5th around 2400 rpm. Like this I can tow my boat with cruise on and rarely downshift or gear hunt again similar to the Titan.
I've towed this boat with a buddy's 2009 5.4 and it gear hunted much more than my 5.0. However, we towed in tow haul mode and I didn't' know how to lock out 6th. But for sure the 5.4 gear hunted much more than this 5.0. The graph is still interesting. I'd like to get that 5.4 back now and somehow lock out 6th and do the tow test again with my boat.
From the real world towing experiences on this forum and others, it would seem like the 5.0 holds gears while towing better. The Ford charts would suggest otherwise just looking at torque alone.

When towing my 5000 lbs high profile and wide profile travel trailer, I have no gear hunting.
Now with the 2009 and 2010, you can't lock out gears, the tow mode programming does everything. The 2009 was likely trying to save gas by putting it in the gear that would offer the best fuel economy. I believe the 2011s will also do this, IF YOU don't lock out any gears.

Hum, I also had a Titan, a Crew Cab Off Road Package 4WD. I'll never own another. 2nd worst, unreliable vehicle I've owned. Only beat out by my '96 Cheby Camaro. I found the Titan's drivetrain wanting. It quickly ran out of passing power when needed the most. The 5.4L 2010 F150 has power to spare. I often find my self up to 80 mph without even realizing it when passing under 55 mph drivers, quickly.

I've got an '09 5.4.... Granted, it's tuned with all the exhaust, intake, gotts, blah blah blah..... pulls my TT about 2x a month w/o issue.... best towing truck I've ever owned... I've never driven/towed with any of the other current issued motors, but zero complaints from me.... All the power I need, and I have often been in tow when I look down and throw out the "Oh crap, I'm doing 80....."

This is my second F150 with the 5.4L and I a more than impressed with its capabilities. Especially with the 6speed as opposed to the old 4speed I had with my last 5.4L it is much better. Just glad to see Ford staying on top with all the engines they offer. GO BLUE OVAL!!

Horsepower NEVER rules when racing from a stop. Horsepower is a measure of torque over time anyways, so that's not even possible. you have to have torque first just to build into horsepower. If you saw the horsepower curves on these engines, you'd laugh. All start at around 100hp at 1500 rpms. lol. Horsepower doesn't affect racing until high rpm. Even 4 banger cars with no torque are still accelerating via torque. it just doesn't start til higher in the rpm band. Torque accelerates you. Period.
