get a 2010 or 2011?
I am looking at getting a new(er) truck to pull a car trailer ( occasionally) and other p/u stuff. I am looking at a 2010 XL Standard cab with the 4.6 long bed and towing package . Every thing else is pretty basic. 9k miles for 18k. On the Ford build site same truck as 2011 would be about 26k. I don't care about "brand new" so much, and I keep vehicles a long time as a general rule, so my big question is about the new drive trains vs the depreciation hit. My son has new 5.0 mustang and raves about the engine and the reviews on the new v-6 in the mustang are equally impressive...I also see the new trucks have the 6 speed...so here is my question that I do not want to ask a salesguy... is getting a 2011 with the new engines worth the 8k price difference 2010 vs 2011? Now to be fair the 26 k is the sticker...I am a MCA member and I think the "X" plan pricing might still be available...so any thoughts from you guys in the real world?

Well I think you know the toss up here, Save money and go with a 2010 or spend the extra dough on a 2011 and get more power (HP and TQ). I was on the line myself and decided to wait for the 5.0 and so far I'm very happy with this truck and engine tranny setup granted I only have about 250 miles. I also used the x-plan to purchase the truck. So if you can afford it my vote is go with the 2011 you only live once. Go test drive them back to back and you will find a way to afford it.

I think you will find that price of 18k on a used XL is wayyy too high.
I just looked, and after rebates, dealers near me have new 2011 XL 8 foot beds for roughly $19k.
I know some were advertising new 2010s for 15k a month ago.
To me, I didn't buy a 2010 because the 5.4L just wasn't enough power for me. Now that I've driven a 2011 with the 5.0, I love it. Probably going to jump on it shortly.

i had the same dilemna. I went with the 2010. The 5.4 is a very proven engine and does a great job for everything I need. The 3.5 sounds great on mpg, but it is the first year out, and needs some kinks worked out more than likely. I have always been told, even by top end mechanics, that if you can, don't mess with the first year engine models. Let someone else work out the kinks.

Well, after looking at all the info I could find I pulled the trigger on a new 2011 XLT Supercab, 8ft bed, 3.5 ecoboost. I was seeing some good stuff on the reviews but this article is what sealed it for me:

I figure that engine went through more than I will ever throw at it and since I plan on keeping it a long (long) time, I figured I would get it the way I wanted it. The "X" plan simplified the buying process and made it painless. Ordered this weekend...will post pictures when it shows up.
Now I just need a solid car trailer to drag my cars around on, since pulling it will not be an issue.
Appreciate the feedback from the members who replied.
