A tonneau cover or cap
hey guys.
having trouble picking between a tonneau cover or a cap. I like the look of both of them. I know the cap is probably a little more practical. would like to know what everyone thinks

Oh man, you opened a can of worms here. haha. I know from having a tonneau cover that it's really nice until you need to put something back there larger than a 2x4. Also the cap is an inconvenience if you need to load something a little larger but is really cool for camping. Look, there's no perfect option other than having a means to take off the cover or cap when you need to load something. Personally, I would leave everything off unless you needed a cap (camping) or a cover (security).

It depends on how you use your truck. I had caps of previous trucks, a hard folding tonneau on my last truck, and now a soft tonneau on my current truck. I will never have a cap on a truck again, and will always have a soft tonneau. I have mine rolled up or removed at least weekly. I haul in my truck often, and use it for camping, road trips, etc. The tonneau is a perfect match for me.

Tonneau cover. It keeps the look of a truck.
I had a truck with a topper on it and I didnt like the look of it. Just didnt look like a truck to me.

For me the choice was mostly the security level between the two. As a tool peddler I carry a lot of demo tools and too lazy to empty and reload the bed so went with a Tonneau. Also I considered the increased blind spot with a cap. Now that I've driven this truck I realize the side mirror is the only way to know what's coming up on the right. My Ex-Silverado I could turn and look. Not this truck. I may reconsider a cap on the next truck and just use a dark blanket to cover my tools. Or nothing since I may retire by then.

I have a trifold tonneau that takes about a minute to fold or 2 to remove and just about that long to reinstall. Having had to take it off several times the past couple months to carry oversize items it would have been a real pain had it been a cap. And it's otherwise nice when installed. If you're rarely or never going to carry stuff too big for a cap then I think it really doesn't matter except for the blocking your view part.

I personally prefer the added security of a roll up hard top cover. Anybody with a knife or razorblade can slice open a soft cover just to look for something to steal. You lose a little room up front where it rolls into but it is worth it to me for the security. I can also remove mine in less than 5 minutes if I need the extra room.

well it does appear I opened a can of worms. lol it appears to go either way. I have a oem soft roll up cover and I hate that there is no support and when it rains it puddles and in the winter with the snow it stretches the cover. I haul race gear but it can usually fit under the cover, but I do hunt and haul decoy bags and gear. so I could use either or
