As far as the Exos go, I looked into them as well (really well rated!), but they are available in only a very limited number of sizes. If they come in the size you need, GET 'EM (no warranty though).

And a mention on the KO2 (BFG): they are popular. They are nice looking. They fall apart way too soon, and "chunk" apart on trails. Mileage is awful, and they perform terrible in the 2nd half of their life (not great in the 1st half either). I walk a wide circle around BFGs.

How long did you run the new bfg at's (ko2's) on your truck for? I take it you actually had/ran them.
Like I've said before II have a lot of hard core 4x4 buddies ECV jeepers, and a few of them run them and hard and have been really impressed with them.
With that being said I like the toyo Mt's also and have ran them on multiple trucks/jeeps, they are expensive mo-foes and heavy as hell though, but I liked them.
Around here pretty much every 4x4 you see runs them, albeit half of them probably never see dirt. Starting to see more and more ko2's though now that they have been out for a while .. .

This sounds like I'm being called out...

Well, when I started in tires back in '76, Armstrong Tru Tracs we're THE tire for off-roaders. BFG came out with their All Terrain T/A soon thereafter. Since then, they became a big seller. They ARE a great looking tire, don't get me wrong. But they have always been a mediocre performer. Never great, never bad. (an old Off Road rag did a tire compare, and many ATs beat BFG's Mud Terrains consistently).

So, to answer your question, after working with and selling tires for some years; privy to all the comparos and ratings (insider stuff), why would I ever buy a "so-so" tire? I just get to see what others deal with. And the BFGs do chunk apart on the trails (literally); and yes, the "KO2s" too. I'm not saying they're a "bad" tire. there's just better tires available, depending on what you do with them. And like you said, 50% (more?) never see any off road situations anyway, so why not buy a tire that makes your truck look good? *YMMV*

Me? I drive a lot of highway, but when I go off road, I go o-f-f road and demand a lot of my tires. BFGs are just not up to the task [for me] IMHO.

Cheers!

Lol, na, not calling you out, just was wondering if you had any actual hands on with them, owned them.
I have a few friends in the tire business, one guy says the bfg's are the cats meow and toyos are no good with stories to prove his point, other guy says the exact opposite along with stories to prove his point and so on and so on with many brands, different tire guys.
Like I said though I've pretty much ran toyo Mt's on all my 4x4's and liked them. I also have the jeep friends who run the ko2's and have no complaints, talking hard core rock crawling, full run of the Rubicon trail.
I appreciate your info/experience

This pic is from about 3 years ago but my buddies with the ko2's have gone this same route many a times. The trail is little over 20 miles and most of it is like this

I've ran this trail with my ****** running the regular ol bfg ko's on a few occasions back in the day...

I am in the same situation on deciding between the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 and Toyo AT2's except different tire sizes. It's tuff because the price point between the 2 in the same sizes are pretty close. They both have good reviews and both look good. I do like the at2's more aggressive tread and sidewall design though.

Out of those 2 and for that close of price I would go with the Toyo especially where you are. I think the Terra would last a little longer for just highway driving though. I think the BFG is a good tire as well, but overpriced. We have had great luck with the Cooper AT3 as well as the Mastercraft AXT.

Since you live in Colorado like I do, I would see if you can find a size that works for you in a Goodyear Duratrac. The Snow and Ice performance is outstanding. I have ran the Duratracs on both my Jeep and now on my F150. I have been very impressed with their Offroad abilities, Snow/Ice Performance, and their quiet for a hybrid AT/MT tread pattern.

Too many guys want to say that the KO2s are the same as the original KOs. It's a completely different rubber compound. I haven't heard anything negative about the new tires chunking. Canadian Tire ranked them at a 100 for snow/ice performance. 4wheelparts has them for around $1k shipped for all 4. Like I said, I had the ATII's, and they had great street manners and did ok in the snow/ice, but the KO2s did very very well for me.
