Tires please help!!!
Im wearing out a set of tires about every 25k miles on average. I think the 1/2 ton crew is too heavy for a regular passenger/ suv tire. Is there a kind that is better than the 3 I have tried . set 1 was the factory michelins (30k), set 2 were some cooper discover ht plus (they really sucked only got 20k ),set 3 are BFG RADIAL LONG TRAIL have 25 k on them and probably will get another 10k by the tine i change them) Yall think i need to go up to a LT since i pull a trailer frequently ? Or any opinions / suggestions are appreciated .

first we need a little history, do you rotate the tires often and keep the pressure at the reccomended psi? also how is your driving style? and what do you usually tow for a trailer? all of these things can help tires last or wear them out extremely quick.

Have your tires been wearing evenly across the tread?
If they have been wearing on the outside edges, then you are not running the psi high enough. Wearing in the center, too high psi.
But you feelings about the load rating of the OEM/passenger tires is heading down the right path. The greater the load carrying capacity of a tire (largely determined by air volume. I.e., a 20" tire will generally have less load capacity than an 18" tire simply due to the less air volume. But if you ever get more than 1/2 the total weight capacity of the (4) tires, then you are really stressing them, and they will wear prematurely. I generally get 50k+ miles out of a set of truck tires. But then again, I always run LT tires.

I just put a set if BFG AT KO's on my truck. LT275/70R18 per the advice from the boards. Slightly taller, less money than stock 275/65. I gained about 1" over stock goodyears on diameter, but they looks much bigger. Has to be the tread pattern that is squared off at the shoulder. Looks much better. The ride is still great (it's a 10 ply tire), and much better traction over stock.

Agree with previous post. Have 305/55/20 bfg at's and the truck does not roll as much side to side. The only thing I can figure is the bfg sidewall is 3 ply, tire is 10 ply and it has a wider footprint.

I rotate every 6k . Driving style is ..well, I dont spin the tires at all . These things are too expensive for that. Run them at 35 and a little higher when towing. I tow a 16ft flatbed with atvs on them.

They have been wearing evenly.. Same amount of tread all way across. Keep aired up once a week and adjust if necessary,. I really just think i need a better load rated tire . I think these trucks are too heavy for a regular tire after you put 4 people and a trailer on it

Once I get my level on my truck I'm going with hankook dynapro atm,
have done a lot of research and have had hankooks before they wear nice as long as you rotate them and have a good all terrain tread pattern
Also you can get them in an LT to handle the weight better than a p rated tire

I think your on the right track with stepping up to an Lt tire. With what your describing for weight you should be good with an 8-ply Lt tire but if you think you may someday haul a heavier load you may want to just go with a 10 ply tire now.
