Default Tire Question

Looking for tires for my truck and have some questions. I have a 2014 f150 xlt with the 18" chrome wheels. The wheel dimensions are 18x7.5x44. What does the 7.5 mean? I'm looking for a 35" tire but don't know what the correct size should be. I looked at 305 65 18 and 305 70 18 and the 305 70 18 is pretty close to a 35. I guess I'm asking how do I know how wide of a tire I can get that will fit on my stock wheels. Any info on a 35" tire or one close that can fit on my wheel would be appreciated.

The problem with wide tires on 7.5" wide rims is the potential for premature wear.
Another problem with wide tires on stock offset rims is the tire rubbing on the upper control arm....some people use spacers to help with that.

My recommendation would be a 285, maybe a 295 to ensure that you don't encounter the above problems.

You can find that info in any tire manufacturer specs.

Actually, Nitto is saying a 305/60/18 works on a 7.5-9" rim, with 9" wide being their recommendation.

But that won't help you know if it will hit on your uca.

Is a 305/70/18 wider or narrower than a 305/60/18

They'll be the same width. And a 70 would be taller than a 60. Although I've never seen a 70/18 for 305s.

they 'should' be the same width like KKR5 says, but unfortunately the numbers don't necessarily represent the actual dimensions of the tires... with 305/70/18 it 'should be 305mm wide, 70% of the 305mm's of side wall height on an 18" rim and a 305/60/18 should be the same 305mm of width, 60% of the 305mm in side wall height on an 18" rim.

if you go and look at the actual specs of tires you are looking for you will find different dimensions of the same 'size' tire... like a nitto 305/60/18 won't be the same as a toyo 305/60/18 (specifically nittos seem to run wider than the size suggests)
