Default Tick tick tick

It wasn't so bad before but now this ticking sound coming from the engine is getting a bit louder and more frequent. Only happens when accelerating. The only mod I've done is a flowmaster force 2 about 5 moths ago but there was a faint ticking before that and it just started getting worse. I've heard and read stuff about valve clatter but not to sure. Its kind of a rapid tick and happens especially going up hill. What do you guys think? Normal or should I take it in?

I wouldn't think any "ticking" sound coming from the engine that is getting worse over time is normal. I would take it in.

I think I read somewhere its tsb for the belt and or tensioner pulley, you have a 5.0? I had a 4.0 sport trac that did that when it was cold, they changed the belt and it fixed it.

Same year, same engine, same noise here. I noticed it when the truck was few months old. A light tick/rattle under light acceleration, around 1500-2000 rpm. Now that I have 20k miles, I don't hear it anymore. I never found an intentional fix for it. There's at least one more guy on here who has it too.

A lot of times a ticking sound when under load (going up a hill... at 1500-2000RPM) is from an exhaust leak...

heres that thread I was talking about. Its for a 5.0, but like i said i had a belt making a ticking noise in my 4.0l sport trac, I sure didnt think it was a belt making the noise but after they changed it the problem was fixed.
