Default Thoughts on NYS tint law? 70% light transmission

Just wondering everyone's thoughts on New York States new tint law requiring at least 70% light transmission.

I understand its a safety concern, but 70% light transmission as a minimum seems a bit outrageous to me.

It's 70% in RI. Doesn't stop people from getting tinted.

Yes but we have inspection requirements in NY, now your vehicle won't pass inspection if it has illegal tint. Before it wasn't part of the inspection process.

Rhode Island is the same way. Not tough to find somewhere who'll inspect you. It's just a matter of whether you want to risk it or not. I know people who have gone years and never caught and some after a few weeks. Not gonna stop me from tinting my truck though .

My view is keep legal, no need to get pulled over for something stupid like tint after I had a drink at dinner

Here in SC, there is basically a "no tint" standard. The legal tint is so light, it is almost not worth getting the vehicles tinted. But SC has no inspection process, so people get their windows tinted dark and hope they don't get pulled. I have mine tinted dark, but I have a medical prescription from my Ophthalmologist due to my eye trauma. I get harassed until I show my prescription.

I know, I have a 2012 sterling grey FX4 and it looks 100% better with tinted front windows.

Right? It almost looks wrong with such a dark back window and clear as day front window. Debating on 35% or 20%. Maybe a strip up top to kill the sun that blind me on my drive to college everyday.

20% would match the back windows, I have 20% on right now but will be going to 35%. It really sucks trying to back up at night.

I have 20 % all the way on mine. It is a bull**** law and it's also bull**** that it's part of nys inspection. I will not remove the tint, and I will have a few choice words for any law enforcement official that pulls me over for it. There are much bigger problems in this area and state they can be dealing with.
