For those of you that have re-geared
Im looking to regear to accommodate for my second pair of 33x12.5x18 toyos. i have 3.73 gears in my 09 5.4L FX4 and im looking to go up obviously. i have read that you should go a whole size up so i am looking at going with 4.56, i think.my questions are do i need to go up that much? also what brand and where did you buy your gears from? ive tried searching sites but i don't know what site or where to begin.

4.56 seems a little high for 33's. you might want to look at a gearing calculator online, which will show you the affects of gearing, by comparing re-gained power/torque vs. fuel economy/engine rpm's.
I would think you might want around 4.10/4.11, Im not sure what is available for your truck.
When I re-geared my 06, I went with Yukon 4.56 (lifted with 35's). I could not have been happier with the gears.... they made absolutely NO noise at all. I did the install myself, which I only recommend if you have good mechanical abilities. It is an easy job, but very tedious, and can be time consuming to get the correct measurements. It does require a few special tools as well.
If you have a shop do it, you are looking at up to $2000.00, maybe even more for your 4wd, to get all the gears, install kits, oil, and labor. obviously rates will vary by location.
I purchased mine from Randy's Ring and Pinion, in Everett WA. Check out their website, I think they even have the gear calculator there.

i have a gear calculator on my bookmarks http://www.offroaders.com/tech/gear-ratio-chart.htm.. but like i said i had also read that you should go up a full size thats why i said 4.56.. im just looking to get back the lost power and maybe a little mpg. after i decided to stick with my 33's i figured i would enjoy it more if i regeared

4.56 will do well on 37's and will be over geared for 35's.. I agree that it may not be worth it to go with 4.10, but unless you plan on going up in the future I wouldn't get 4.56 for 33's

Keepin' the lights on!
OP, are you sure you have 2.73s? FX4s usually come with 3.73. If you never travel on the freeway, 4.56 wouldn't be too bad.

Don't bother. I have near 35 inch bfg's on my Eco with 3.55 rear end and it's more than fine still...

And to the original poster. 4.56 is probably too much for 33's....and 4.10 isn't enough of a change to justify a regear. I'd say stick with what you got!

4.10 with 33s puts you just slightly lower gearing then 3.55 with stock tires. Try using a gearing calculator. I wish I would have gone 4.56 with my 33s but I also have a 4spd soooo........each truck is different. Depends what stock gears you have, what engine/trans/ what you plan to do with the truck, etc etc.
