Is there really a differnce between Dearborn and Kansas City trucks?

I don't think it really matters between KC (K) or DB (F).
I think most are produced with as much care as most any new vehicle these days, and there will always be a small % which have some minor defects or blemishes. This is why it is important to take the time to carefully inspect the paint and interior trim, prior to taking delivery and driving it off the lot!
In that regard, I have always wondered what is their cut-off point or threshold, for letting the vehicle with the blemish be delivered to the dealer for resolution, vs. those that are remedied at the plant?? Are they going to repaint a body panel at the factory, or are they going to have the dealer do this?
It seems to me, there is just too much metal moving down the line, to pull a truck off and send it back through again, or something similar, for a minor defect; however, if an engine won't start, or the drivetrain makes a grinding noise driving off the line, they will fix it there, in a shop, before delivery to a dealer?

I bought a 2012 F150 reg cab in September for my business. This truck was built in Kansas City and is flawless...paint perfect...all body panels line up perfectly. I ordered a 2013 F150 super cab 4x4 which arrived the first week in November and was built in Dearborn. The Dearborn built truck has 3 noticeable body flaws. The pickup box is off to one side where it meets the cab by almost a 1/2"...the tailgate is further out on one side by a 1/4"...at the front fender where the lower grill plastic molding meets the fender, the molding sticks out by at least an 1/8". I watched a video on the National Geographic channel that showed the F150 plant in Dearborn building trucks. There were lasers that supposedly checks the alignment of the body panels ...also there were people that checked the truck before it leaves the assembly line. I think the lasers and people need some adjusting in Dearborn!!!

My Kansas City truck is cosmetically perfect. I only have 400 miles on it and it runs great and shifts smooth. Actually I noticed that on the dash it tell you what gear you are in and if it wasn't for this I can't tell when the truck shifts.

Seems like a lot of people love their KCAP built truck! Thumbs up! It's been a tough year for us so far.

Five-0 Ret.
Man, I feel for you. After my first retirement (yeah I know) I went to work for a large manufacturing company. I know of what you speak when you say equipment troubles.
BTW, please make sure all is well soon just in case you get the order for my new Platinum.

I've had an '05 Dearborne truck and a '12 KC truck. Both have been nearly perfect.
