Is there much difference?

Can't find a Fx4 with a 3.73 rear in it, there are some good deals with the 3.55. My question will I be able to tell much difference between the 2 while towing say 6k. This will be an ecoboost engine as well. I hate to pass up a good deal if there will not be too much difference between the 2. I am not the one who buys every 2 or 3 years either, drive a fleet truck for my job so it will be my play toy and family truck. My current truck I bought new in 99, so that will tell you how long I am willing to hold on to it.

Minimal difference. I'd prefer the 3.55 over 3.73 for an Eco because it builds torque at low rpms. Unless you plan type tow at the limits of the weight ranges.

This.

Even with the 5.0's torque the 3.55s are fine, I'd leave the 3.73s to the racers.

I had 3.73 ls on my 05 lariat, and have 3.55 end on my 12 lariat 5.0. The new truck is a rocket compared to my old truck, at any speed. Remember that with the 6spd transmission, your first gear is quite low for pulling off the line. This is where you notice the gearing the most. At Highway cruising speed the lower gears will hold longer before needing to downshift, but the ecoboost has such high torque at low rpms it's really not even an issue. Even with the 5.0,when it downshift it screams and accelerates like a scalded dog.

My old 5.4 would downshift, make more noise, but not really go any faster, especially with a trailer behind it. Just buy the ecoboost with 3.55 and e locker, you will love it. Or, buy the 5.0 and enjoy the sweet sweet sounds of that V8. I drove both before buying my 5.0 and was going to buy the ecoboost until I got a screaming deal on my 5.0 lariat. Love love love the V8 growl, even with stock exhaust it just puts a smile on my face every time I mash the go pedal.

Here's the chart for 2013 F150 towing Capacity:
http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...ps437b19d5.jpg

Ecoboost with 3.55 has 300-400lbs more towing capacity than a 5.0L with 3.73
I have 3.31 gears in my 2013 4x4 and it only gives up 100 lbs towing capacity to the 5.0L with 3.73
Plenty of torque to bust the tires loose on dry pavement with those 3.31 gears.

From that chart you may not be able to get the 3.73 on Ecoboost 4x4 without the Max Tow package.

That's funny cause I was so unimpressed with the 3.31 ecoboost I initially test drove that I almost wrote ford and the ecoboost off my truck shopping list as all hype. Driving the 5.0 with 3.55 brought me back. Eco with 3.55 was very similar but I hated that turbo hiss every time I let off the gas, just sounded not right for a truck with that kind of power to sound like a spitting camel :-)

Thank you, I fell a little better about pulling the trigger. Looking at one and they quoted me about $8500 off msrp, may try to get they a little lower or throw in some extras and I may be driving off with it this weekend

Rear Locker...best option ever.

I agree with this as well.

I have the 3.55s in my 13 XLT 5.0, and like you said, with that nice 6 speed transmission and low first gear it does just fine. Most of my miles are highway miles (75 and 85 mph speed limits) so the slightly lower highway rpms were the deciding factor for me.

I believe all of the Fx4 have them, and yes that is a must for me as well
