Default tank swap to 36 gal on 5.0 liter

I want to swap out my 26 gal tank for a 36 gal. I've got a 2013 short bed SCREW with a 5.0 engine. 2WD. I understand from other posts that I'll need the tank, a fuel pump assembly, and a heat shield.

I 'm looking at ford parts online and they list the extended range tank for a 5.0 engine for $900.00++ and for the Eco-Boost it lists for about $400.00+.
What's going on here. Is there really that much difference? or is there any difference at all? the catalog pictures are identical, but they don't show much detail.

I can understand the fuel pump being different, but the tank is just a big plastic bucket.

Well I got a price from a dealer. $2794 to swap out 26 gal to a 36 gal. Which includes $980. labor and the rest parts. That ain't gonna happen!
I'm a little afraid of going to a junk yard because aparently there is aome major difference between the 5.0L tank and the 3.5L tank. At least there is a big difference in the price.
I may have to learn to live with 26 gal.

That seems pretty outrageous to me... I can't imagine that it's all that much work to do the swap unless there's major structural changes that need to happen. That also seems pretty high on parts too, but that's a different ball of wax.

Why would it be worth much to carry 10 more gallons around? Unless towing a bunch you should have a range of 500 miles.

Transfer flow is or was making a very large underbelly tank for f150s. I was pushing for it last year when I had my ecoboost and gave them all critical measurements for the tank itself and the difference between some of the fuel buckets and hats.
I now have their 50gallon tank in my superduty and love the range while towing.

I wasn't sure when the dealer told me about the 36 gallon tank but I can go a month on one tank. That is nice IMO.
