In hindsight, if they were so much better trained and educated than people wouldn't need to purchase a tuner to remedy issues with the factory programming. It all comes down to going with a reputable tuner.

Tuners aren't going to warranty someones motor with their tune for the simple fact they do not know what they are doing with the truck nor how they take care of it, etc. I know a few aftermarket tuners who have actually helped with Ford's calibrations not to mention Roush, etc.

So, IMO, like I said it all comes down to choosing the right custom tuner.

Xcal3 / SF3 from a reputable tuner like VMP Tuning is $399. Comes with 3 custom tunes of your choice.

I would not suggest flashing your truck unless you have a Dealer in your back pocket.

I think this is one of those topics that comes up a lot, and all I can really tell you is that tuning is a personal decision that you must make based on educating yourself on others' experiences. If you're not willing to take responsibility should something happen once tuned, then do not do it. Like others said, you have to be willing to pay to play. A lot of people are tuning after getting lifts and big, heavy tires to change the shift points and correct the speedometer. I am one of the people who would highly recommend tuning, as the drive ability of the truck is greatly improved after compensating for my tire size. BUT, this does not come without risk. I'm prepared to take responsibility for my decision if I grenade my motor. And I will admit that I tossed and turned over the decision for quite a while before pulling the trigger. Good luck with whatever you choose!

I'll probably tune my truck, but not until it's out of warranty. There's a lot to be saved if something goes awry and the motor, tranny, or some other drivetrain part ****s the bed. Parts don't always break from abuse or wear. Sometimes parts are bad from the factory, and you may have to eat that expensive QC issue that would have been Ford's problem prior to the tune. Good mods are definitely worth doing, but not when they can cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars that you otherwise may have saved.
