Talk me out of buying an F250 diesel

There is nothing wrong with that. If, at the end of the day, you just have to have a diesel, then the F150 isn't your truck. But if you want a good truck and don't need the diesel, the F150 is a great, capable truck.

I just sat here and read this thread from start to finish because I'm in the same boat...
I have a 2006 F150 and I "like it" but don't "love it" I've been debating buying an F250 XLT Screw Powerstroke or an F150 Screw FX4 Ecoboost... At the end of the day, the XLT powerstroke doesn't cost much more than the FX4 Eco..
I'm torn because if I sold my 06 for a new one, it'd be the last truck I buy..So the longevity/power of the diesel appeals to me. Aside from fuel costs, the new Powerstrokes get about the same MPG as an Eco anyway..
My biggest fear is I'll think "practically" and go with the conservative/cheaper choice of the 150 instead of the 250 and be in the same boat again where I "like" my truck but don't "love" it...
Whatever I buy next is getting a lift kit and at least 35's, so that's another issue..the 3/4 with the diesel is gonna handle the lift and tires better than a half ton (stronger axles, more power, etc) I've lifted half ton gas trucks before and I know from experience they will fall flat on their face with the bigger tires. Then you have to deal with them losing fuel economy, and power, and eating up suspension components, etc..
Sure the maintenance may cost a little more on the diesel, but longevity...think of the longevity! I'm having a hard time believing I can put 300,000 miles on an ecoboost like you could on a diesel

Buyers remorse is a terrible thing. Always wondering "what if" is going to do nothing but add more stress to your life.
I bought a new 2011 5.0 not because I needed it but because I WANTED it. I wanted an F150 since I was 14 years old and when I was in a situation where I could properly afford one (I was 22 when I bought my truck) I pulled the trigger and for the most part have never looked back. Granted I researched these things for about six months solid and drove them every chance I got, plus calculated all expenditures the best I could so I knew exactly what I was getting myself into financially.
Do I need something this big to get myself too and from work everyday? - No
Could I have gotten a 4cyl economy car and continued to borrow trucks when I needed them? - Sure
Do I use it as a truck? - Yes (maybe a dozen times a year)
Does it put a smile on my face every time I start the engine? - Yes
Do I ever regret not buying something more practical? - A couple times here and there (mainly at the gas pump)
Would I trade this truck for anything right now? - No freakin' way!
My point is simple. If you can afford it and you have done your research and a F250 diesel is really what you want then get it. Its hard to put a price tag on your happiness.

I'm in the same boat, sold my Duramax last year and ordered this 150. I really like it, but don't love it like I did the diesel. I contemplate every day on buying another or sticking with this one.

the new powerstroke f250 has the same rear stiffness as my 2005 f150. My dad has a 2011 250 powerstroke. this is the first 3/4 ton he has had to put helper springs in the back. My leveled 1/2 ton running e rated tires with 65 psi is way stiffer! Get the powerstroke. Yes its more up front but you get most of it back plus in the mean time you get to enjoy the truck you truly want. My dads geting around 20 mpg with 3.31 rear end and its not broken in yet.
