I will take delivery of my next car in Ingolstadt, Germany. Pick it up, drive in Europe for 2 weeks, drop it off, and about 6 weeks later it arrives back at my dealer all prep'd and ready for the 2nd delivery. It's too bad the domestic manufacturers don't get on board.

FWIW, you can still get tours of most plants if you have a group of people, they're just not likely to entertain a tour for one or two people unless you know someone who works there who can show you around on their own personal time. Usually their biggest concern is just liability, I used to work at a plant myself in the IT department and you had to stay on your toes all the time on the floor...damn forklift drivers were nuts sometimes!

Thanks for the plant tour info... I really would like to see it in person! I think it would really be neat to see my truck being built and then have it deliveried right there. I'm in Pittsburgh, so Detriot isn't all that far away.

Interesting set of experiences. We will still try to tour the Ford plant in Dearborn sometime this year. It's good to know where things come from and appreciate those that labor to make them.
We'll be taking a cross country trip with our new truck later this year. It's always inspiring to travel across the country - will take the Northern route out and the Southern route back.
