Tailgate step handle (aka Stripper Pole) removed...

I don't know if they'll fit properly. I actually called Tasca because I thought the $352 was just a mistake. They assured me that was the price. I'll keep my eyes open on eBay or junkyards

Holy ****!!! Thanks for reviving this thread, you have not made me want to remove my worthless pole that makes the tailgate uncomfortable to sit on. Reading the first post first, I was delighted to see this useful mod could be mine for less than $80!
So I notice the date, go the last page, only to find this part has been marked up about 450%!! The price of metal could not have gone up that much since 2012!
I hope the cost drops back to a more reasonable price sometime soon. $350 is way to much to charge for a molded hunk of steel.

Holy crap! It's sad that Ford increased the price that much.
They charge extra for having the dumb *** step on the gate to begin with and then they go jack up the price to make even more money off someone who wants to delete it. It's also a way to make more money off of insurance companies when they pay to replace stolen tailgates.
Ford did something similar years back. When the 01+ Ford Lightnings came out with the "clear" headlights and corners they were actually cheaper than the regular F150 heads and corners. As soon as people started buying them up cause they increased the price many fold.

Do you recall what length of nuts you had to get to install the steel plate? I doubt the factory ones were long enough, but if they were, then even better.
I love the step in my truck, but I miss having a flat tailgate for when I need a work bench, or an actual bench when we go camping. That pole only gets use when I am trying to show off to friends, or start a midget dance party.

Well hey, with all the information in your thread, I can get the steel cut to size, grab some cardboard for a template, and then measure out the length I need for the bolts. So you guess you have already done 90% of the pre-work for me....
Thanks again Old Smoky!

I bought the plastic cover for the tailgate, and left the access hole open underneath. I haven't had any negative effects. I think I got it from Fairway Ford on ebay for about $50. It's nice to have a flat side for gun cases, etc. I need the panel for my bedrug though, so I 'll be keeping my eye out.
