Default Tailgate Lock

Does any know or had experience taking the locking mechanism out of the tailgate to have it re keyed?

You want it to be rekeyed to be different from the ignition?

No, previous owner had to replaced it, so i want it to match my ignition

Ok. I would contact a locksmith and see if they can help you.

Yeah I did that, I can bring it in and they will change it for $25, i just have never taken one out, I didnt know if there were any tricks or how hard it would be

It should be pretty straight forward. Flop your tailgate down, take the panel off the inside/top to access the lock mechanism. Remove any bolts holding the handle to the inside of the tailgate and unclip the rods going to either side of the tailgate latches. The lock and handle should all but fall out. From there, take it in to have the locksmith rekey it.

As mentioned above, but you might not actually have to take the handle out. There's a clip holding the lock cylinder in place, take it out and it just falls out.

If they were not lazy and removed the panel during the spray then yes. Remove bolts and remove panel. If they sprayed with the panel on, you will have to run a knife around the edge and hopefully the panel can be pried off.
