Tailgate cables
So my truck was rear ended(no one was injured). I had the tailgate down and a load of plywood in the bed and the lady hit the truck and went under the gate but not before making it look like a bow. So long story short I took it to a Ford dealer repair shop thinking that the dealer would do all the paint and repairs. I told them I have a few mods (thanks to all of you guys) that I did and they would need to be fixed as well. So I gave them a stainless ball stud that some guys here have used and lock nut for the DZ gate assist and told them that the actuator on the lock would have to be moved to the new gate. No problem says the manager of the repair shop. Well I get the call that the truck is ready and when I get there I find out they drilled an taped a new hope for the DZ and they did not hook up the actuator. So I ask why and was told the their guy snapped the 10mm ball stud (WTH) so they used my old one and had to drill the hole and they couldn't use the actuator because it was damaged. So I asked for all the pieces and they give me the actuator. I asked for the other parts like the screws and the custom spacers I made. He tells me that they were damaged in the accident (WTH again). Ok, fine, I can redo all that stuff but I looked at the paint and I swear a high school kid did it. Where they actually did get the paint the color had nothing to do with the rest of the truck. I also noticed that the right cable on the tailgate had a huge belly in it. I asked why is it so lose and he tells me "oh, they'er all like that". I told him he was wrong and before the accident they both had the same tension on them when the gate was down. So, can some of you guys please tell me how they look on your trucks? Anyhow. I took the truck to a real body shop and the guy there did all he could not to speak badly of the dealer that did the work. It has been and still is a PITA.
Thanks

Hmmm, this is a tough one. The dealer obviously agreed to do more than he had to do. All he had to do was bring it back to factory specs. He doesn't have to agree to any aftermarket parts. The fact that he did and failed is his demise. You talk as if there was no insurance adjuster / company involved. With the addition of an insurance adjuster the insurance company can simply refuse to pay the repair bill until you are satisfied with the repair.
Don't know what else to say but good luck.

There is slightly different tension on them due to the assist torsion bar, it's close but not equal.

True. I had a truck with a custom paint job that was in a collision, and my insurance company paid extra for the repair of the custom paint. Easy couple thousand more than the standard paint repair would have been.

My tailgate cables are not the same tension. Never been in an accident. Same with 2 of my co workers f150's.
After I started reading some people complaining on here about them not being the same tension, I started checking every 09-14 f150 tailgate cables that we would get in our shop. And I usually see 2-3 a week, usually more. Not a single one had 2 cables of the same tension. Even spent a few hours replacing cables on a customers brand new truck for this reason. I put 6 brand new pairs of cables on it. Every time one was taught, the other not.
Platinum's or XL's didn't matter. So, hate to say I agree with the "they're all like that"

Thanks guys, I feel better about the cables. My insurance company is involved and is going to meet me at the new body shop to look at the paint. At this point if they let the new shop repaint it I will take care of the mods myself.
