Default tachometer issue

maybe has been answered or asked, cant find it and sorry have not bee on here in a while

so recently had a full front of engine changed due to codes and drive issues
all 3 timing chains, phasers. cam gears actuators etc etc etc

got the truck back and runs like a champ like new actually!!

RPM TACH GUAGE was reading as it should and no hunting no issues

fast forward a week later and with truck ON and idling the gauges read ZERO or like a tad over the ZERO... step on gas and the tach moves up as it should but goes back to idle and reads ZERO

anyone have this happen or know where to look

never did it before and don't want to say had anything to do with the service that was done cause it was fine when picked it up
now its doing it
had a tech suggest disconnect the battery and see if that fixed it some how... it did not

The system is: crankshaft position sensor...PCM...IPC...physical tachometer <-- Any of these could be the problem. But most likely the IPC.

Perhaps the pointer is simply in the wrong position. Do you have any sort of OBD adapter that would allow you to set up an electronic gauge? If you have something as recommended in the Forscan thread, hook that up either with Forscan or a phone app that will give you a tach readout, then compare. If the cluster tach matches the electronic in motion, except is always 500-1000 low, it's probably just the pointer in the gauge.

You can also check for DTCs with Forscan. If you don't have Forscan set up, but are wanting to DIY testing/repairs, get it.

so before the TSB on the timing chain and extras that were done as well while she was opened up never an issue .. but the cam and crank sensors were replaced with ford OEM parts prior to the TSB

once I got the truck back .. worked perfectly .. although there were open monitors as the truck was 'relearning'

about a week later and this is going on …
dash was never touched or gone near

so I went out to the truck and did the guage test in enginer mode... and the guage is about 600 ish off... then hooked up a scanner to the truck and red the rpms digitally and again about 650ish off..

what would cause this ? if you know
and how do I adjust the guage without taking apart the cluster and physically moving the needle????

IDK what might cause it. But if the needle is just plain off, you might be able to adjust it. I would think you'd have to take the cluster apart. We've had a couple threads about doing this to the speedometer. Never done this myself. Unless you count a 2001 Civic.

yea I found the threads doesn't seem so hard to do .. just cautious about opening up the cluster not knowing what caused the issue … wish I knew why it was doing it so I could fix that rather then playing with the cluster kindda feels like a bandaid to an unknown hiding problem ..
but that may be the way I do go

so been a while since I been on here
will that forscan program really adjust and work on diff features.. how do I down load it ?

I have a platinum so I am sure or at least hoping that the trim package has a few cool previously unlocked features I can enjoy

found out its a weighted needle and the issue was hit a fw big pot holes and threw it off
then hit another one and the needle fell off all together
