I have been using Amsoil for over 6 years in various vehicles ( 03 TJ, 04 Liberty, 02 Ranger x2, 00 Beetle turbo, 02 Silverado, 97 Cherokee, 04 CRV) to name a few. I change the oil once a year or 25k miles using their ea filters. I started them anywhere from new to 80k and have never had any leaks, problems of any kind. Both my tj & cherokee were wheeled regularly in summer & winter. It costs me $60 per vehicle per year (approx). I will not use anything else. I run their gear oil, tranny fluid, coolant, grease, whatever they make. Keep in mind Amsoil has been around for 40 years since 1972.

The best IMHO any pure Group IV or Group V true synthetic oil... (Redline, Amsoil, Motul, others).

Most oils marketed as synthetic in the US are not true synthetics, but Group III oils. Standard fossil oil that goes through more complex hydrocracking to give it 'synthetic like' properties. Can't be marketed as synthetic in most Euro countries. These are pretty much every synthetic you will find on the shelf at most auto parts stores.

That said, ALL oils are pretty damn good these days, even non-synthetics like Rotella T.

I prefer Castrol everything. Been using it for 35years.

That said, my f150 gets the motor craft blend at the dealer.

Royal Purple and Mobil 1. RP has been proven time and again to increase horsepower (albeit minimal) over competing synthetic motor oils. Mobil 1 has always served me well in my daily drivers and as far back as I can remember from my parts counter days, Mobil 1 was one of the first to market. Quaker State caught a bad rap in the 80s for being the cause of many gummed up engine failures but they have a great quality oil by today's measures. Pennzoil conventional oil uses a lot of paraffin wax as part of their friction modifying formula but I haven't heard anyone speak badly of either their conventional or synthetic. Castrol has never been at the top of my list due to inconsistencies with their batches. Some Castrol batches are lighter than i would imagine while most batches seem dark; probably due to the additives. I would think that buying oil is akin to what brand of car you like best or what side of the bed you prefer to sleep on.

... And filter? As long as it isn't a Fram I will likely allow it on my car. I prefer Motorcraft or Purolator. The anti-drain back feature is what I look for most when it comes to Ford.

I've always used Mobil 1. Why? I dunno.. I guess those commercials back twenty years ago left a mark on my brain - you know the one where they run the engines out of oil, but the mobil 1 engine keeps running when the others seize up? lol...

i use Conklin oil, and have been using it for about ten years on personal vehicles and we also use it at work will not use anything else i had 28 k on my truck when i bought it and i switched it over to Conklin i got a quieter, cleaner, more powerful, engine and got a little over a 1/2 MPG, i change my oil every 12K, every 4k i change the filter and add a quart of oil, here is why i use Conklin check it out

I am sure that the new generation product is just fine. But unfortunately, the old reputation still lingers.
This problem never existed for those who used Pennzoil.

So true............but todays QS is not your fathers oil.............its a very good oil for the money

We use Amsoil in our patrol cars. Change at 15,000 mile intervals, but those are a hard driven 15k with alot of idling time.

I've been told once synthetic is used, you cant go back to a normal oil in the same engine. True?
