SYNC v4.4 Breaks USB2
#12
Hey everybody,
If you've recently updated to V4.4 and have noticed that the USB 2 port is no longer working, I'd like to gather some information from you. Please send me a PM with your name, VIN, phone number, and current mileage. If you have any other feedback about the update, please include that in your message as well.

Just wait...
My USB2 didn't work right after I did the update last night, so I plugged my usb drive into the USB1 port and switch the aux setting to usb, turned off the engine and locked the truck with the FOB (still sitting inside.)
Then I waited until the radio went completely off and the red light on my drive went out. After that, I moved the drive to my USB2 cable and left it like that for the night.
Went out this morning and it recognized my drive in the USB2 port.
Now I have the BT streaming info and USB2

I was using bluetooth stereo then turned truck off. opened door and locked truck, Went into Walmart 10 mins came back out with BT turned off on phone and usb2 was plugged into port. Opened door and started truck. I could not connect to BT so it found USB2. I did not have anything plugged into USB1. Looks like there is no voice command for USB2, as it always replies USB, but it does work. I reproduced this like 3 times.

I plugged my iPod into USB1 yesterday afternoon and left it plugged in overnight (there was probably a couple of starts/offs in between). This morning I moved it back to USB2 before starting the truck, Sync recognized it as a new device when I hit the AUX button and was able to use voice commands just like before the update.

So I tried what a few others have suggested and plugged my SSD into the front, USB1 port, and USB1 works fine. SYNC immediately detected the new device, proceeded to index it, and it works.
Then I shut the truck off completely and moved the SSD to USB2. Started the truck and SYNC immediately detected the new device as USB2, proceeded to index it, and it works.
The problem seems to be that since SYNC no longer recognizes "USB2" as a valid voice command (or device). If I change the AUX input to BT Audio or Line In, there's no way to get back to USB2 without shutting the truck off, turning off Bluetooth on the phone, and restarting the struck. SYNC then recognizes USB2 as a new device (again) and reindexes it (which takes a lot of time).
It's like when SYNC is switched to AUX, it scans BT, Line In, and USB1. If there's nothing on those inputs it looks at USB2. But you can't ask for USB2 by name.
So if I leave BT on my phone turned on, SYNC will use that as the default AUX device and won't let me switch to USB2.
Very strange and annoying behavior...
For me, I wish I could find a GEN1 version of SYNC to roll back to. My music is on a USB SSD and my kid's music on my phone. I liked the convenience of being able to switch back and forth from BT Audio to USB2, and the fact that I had to say "Bluetooth Audio" each time I wanted to hear music off the phone was not that big of a PITA. They way it is now is MUCH worse for me.
