Anyone replaced the SunRoof Track yet?
Dealer quoted $1600 total costs, ~150 was parts. 1400 in labor? Get real. Anyone have a ford repair disc and could share the "how-to"? Thanks!

a sunroof track is way more than $150. The $1400 in labor sounds like you're getting gouged. I've done a few under warranty, Pull both front seats and console, drop the headliner, rotate and pull it out the right front door. Pull the sun roof glass, drop the track, again out the right front door. transfer the shade and motor. Put it back together. Then initialize the motor.

Ouch! And seriously, how often do these things really get opened and closed.
That is a major irritation.
edit: I found a place that sells a repair kit for them. Google 'The Sunroof Dr'. Looks like its a common enough problem that they make a repair kit for the 2000-11 F150 trucks. It does say you need to remove the entire sunroof.
However thanks to cjcnomor4 giving us a brief rundown we at least know what to expect if attempting it.

As I opined in another related thread:
While this a rare occurrence; it is but one of the reasons, I get the Ford ESP on my trucks. Things mechanical can break.

True but once it breaks it needs fixing so no use my crying about it.
I did manage to get the little broken part out of the way so the sunroof now closes but doesn't seal upwards very well at all now. It definitely going to need to be fixed soon.
One question I have is, do the seats absolutely need to be removed to fix this?
I found this slightly more detailed description on how to do it.
Repair kit fits all 2000-2010 Ford F150/F250/F350 Extended Cab and Crew Cab models with a factory installed sunroof.
Please note: These parts will not work for 1997-1999 models. We currently do not have repair kit components available for 1997-1999 model year sunroofs.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How difficult is it to remove my headliner?
A: Headliner removal requires removing the sun visors, map light console, dome light and upper trim around headliner perimeter. The headliner is attached to the bottom of the sunroof assembly with velcro. The headliner is removed out of one of the rear doors on Supercrew and Supercab pickups.
Q: Does my sunroof have drain lines?
A: Yes. The sunroof has 4 rubber drain lines, one on each corner. The drain lines fit onto the assembly by compression. Pull off drain lines prior to removing assembly.
Q: How is the sunroof assembly attached to my roof?
A: The assembly is attached with 8 10mm nuts.
Q. What tools are required to install the repair kit components?
A. The rear ends caps are secured to the sunroof assembly with 3-3/16" aluminum rivets each. (This procedure is done on the workbench) A drill with a 3/16" drill bit are required to remove the end caps. A pop rivet tool is required to reattach the end caps once the repair kit components have been installed. The replacement rivets are included in the repair kit.
Q: How long should this repair take?
A: Most shops will bill you for 4 hours labor to install the repair kit.:
The headliner part I have done before while working on my Sync microphone and chasing down those wires.
It doesn't mention the seat removal. Is that just a time saver perhaps? I plan on taking a full day.
Anyway, I will be ordering this to get the sunroof to seal up against the roof to keep the rain and snow out this fall.
If anyone has any experience with this feel free to chime in.
