Uh, that isn't true. The "recess" is part of the screen, forcing the brackets to be different. That's why we have to modify the brackets, to fit screens they don't match to.

You sure about that? I thought they were all the same, and only the brackets were different.

Side note: Looks like prices are dropping. Right at the top of the list is a nav APIM with scrren and brackets for $595 shipped. Given they are putting hundreds of thousands of these out a year, it's going to keep getting cheaper.

Look at the pics for this one, out of a F250. Compare with the one you posted, from a Focus.

There are definitely two different screens. The actual screen itself may be the same, but at least the housing that it is installed in are different. One has a flat side and the other has a stair stepped side. The stair stepped side worked great in my 2013 F150 without ANY bracket modification. If you use the flat sided one, it requires bracket modification.

Actually, I think 2018Raptor may have forgot. His first post of the thread outlines this point and even lists which cars have which screen.

Other forums have mentioned that there is a 3.3 update available. Has anybody with sync 2 to sync 3 performed the update? I was hesitant to do it in case it breaks it for the people that have done the mod.

It's not Sony or anything premium. No subwoofer. 6 speakers. 4.?" screen.

That is a little different, but it can be done. There was a thread on switching from 4" to 8" screen, then there are these threads about switching to Sync3. I haven't personally dealt with this, so anything else I say would be speculation. I think there are 4" to Sync3 kits on Ebay. In a lot of ways it might be easier to switch to aftermarket. Alpine even makes a custom install setup for your truck, although it is not cheap. Rnlcomp has installed one, he's commented about that a few times.
