Default plastic chrome rims?

taking a double look on my stock chrome rims<09 f150> and noticed the chrome part feels like plastic so i looked inside the wheel from behind and all it is is an aluminum rim with a chrome cover on top which is held together with looks like foam spray just like u buy in a can to insulate cracks in your house, the chrome itself feels like plastic just like the chrome grille ,hope they last ,any of you had any problems with the chrome wheels ?
still brake dust on those front chrome wheels!

Do you have the 20"'s? My chrome 18's seem to be real, but I know the 20's on my mother in laws edge are chrome clad(which is what you are describing)

They are "chrome clad" aluminum wheels - meaning chromed plastic cover over an aluminum wheel.

Definitely chrome clad wheels. Pretty cheap way to do do it with the price they charge for the chrome package.

no i got the 18" wheels and ive seen a few different design even the 20" rims and they all have the same plastic chrome on top of the alluminium wheel havent seen a real chrome wheel yet on the new fords except the harley davidson which looks like chrome but is buffed aluminum rims, dont care if there plastic as long as they last longer than them aluminum wheels i had on my 05 which the clear on them started chipping and the rim started getting black and it doesnt matter which brand ive seen them all do that after 3 to 4 yrs on the road.

Have an '06 F150 with the stock Chrome (clad) rims. So far 4yrs in and they still look good, no chipping or problems. Just don't hit a curb or anything, cause the clad could break loose, as I've seen on a persons Ford Edge with the Chrome (clad) rims.

i was very suprised when i figured this out on my moms 06 expedition. was cleaning them one day and i started looking closer at them and was stunned haha. you spend all that money on the extra "chrome" wheels and they slap plastic on them. kinda sad and cheap if you ask me.

Yeah I agree. Its pretty cheap. Im gonna eventually trade mine out for a set of ProComp wheels. I actually was telling a friend of mine that I had chrome wheels and he was like "Those are plastic dude". I felt like a jerk. Since when does "clad" mean "fake"????????

Clad means "dressed", and you would be suprised at how many vehicles on the road today have chrome clad wheels.

For those complaining about these wheels being chrome clad and paying extra for the chrome pkg. Just imagine how much more expensive and heavier these wheels would be if they were truly chrome. Only those true car nuts will know they aren't chrome.

Personally, I'd like them to be all chrome, but have no problem with them being chrome clad.
