Default switched power for grille lights

My son bought a new Amazon grille for his 2012 F150. Has what I call 3 Toyota lights in the grille and a wiring harness but I need to tie it in to the switched running light power circuit. At least that’s where I think it would go.

Anyways I’m sure there are multiple places to tap into the harness but I’m just looking for ideas in where/how anyone else has done it.

He found a YouTube vid of a guy having to lengthen the supplied harness so it could reach the LH headlight area and spliced it in near there. I was thinking I would find the correct wiring near the firewall or somewhere between there and the H/L (1) so I didn’t have to lengthen the supplied harness and (2) so I could make it easily accessible without removing the H/L or anything else.

Also planning on soldering one half of a stock-type plug assy thus turning it into a ‘plug and play’.

Thanks for any info!

Steve

I tapped mine into the parking lights on the driver side headlight. I don't have access to the truck right now to take pictures, but I can post a few on Monday.

I pulled up a few prints from a 2013 manual. Maybe you could tap into the rear parking lights. ( be sure the circuit could handle the current) The front lamp tap is a popular location if you want the lamps on with your daytime running lamps.

i also did this. Its not on 100% only when i turn on the switch to parking lights only. My DRL’s are my turn signals so the first notch on the lightswitch is my parking lights, turn signals (new DRL) and those raptor grill lights. Looks good imo

Third for this option. I leave the switch on "auto", and used ForScan to program the DRL's to come on whenever the truck is shifted out of park. I literally never touch the headlight switch, ever.

I tapped mine into the parking lights on the passenger side headlight. I ran the wiring up past teh spring and to the grill lights.
