Default swap out 3.15 for 3.73

Hello all,
I recently purchased a new travel trailer which weighs 7500lbs. I am currently towing it with a 2013 F150 FX2 ecoboost. I have 3.15 and want to know if putting 3.73 would benefit me?

Do I just need the ring and pinion? I saw others talking about buying other things for a gear swap.

Well, you buy the ring and pinion set, and while you're in there I would put in new bearings, just because you're in there. If I were you, and I'm not, I'd put a LS in there too.Don't forget, you'll need either a tuner, or a trip to the dealer to fix your speedometer.A gear change will make a world of difference.

Gears + Tune = some real ***** for your truck compared to what you have now.

I've been wondering about the LS. If you're pick up doesn't have it originally, how do you engage it if you install it during a gear swap?

I would plan for pinion bearings at a minimum. i can be difficult to press off the old bearings without damaging them. There are also install kits you can get that will have the parts needed. They usually come in different "levels" from just bearings/shims to just install the R&P to all parts needed to rebuild the diff (seals/gasket/marking compound, etc). I would talk to your installer and see what they recommend for your axle. Also get some brand recommendation/preferences from them.

Limited slips don't need to be engaged, they are automatic. Only a selectable locker will have a means to engage/disengage.

That's for the electric (selectable) locker, not a limited slip. When engaged, the locker will lock both rear wheels together with 0 slippage, like a spool. Provides great traction, but poor handling on road (and a lot of other drawbacks). With the ability to disengage the locker, the rear diff is able to slip when turning/cornering, returning normal driving characteristics. A limited slip can allow the rear tires to spin at different speeds for turning/corning, so no need to turn it on & off.
