I pick my set up today! With the 5.0 and 3.55 rearend, should I keep the 315/70/17s or step down a size to 285/70/17? I love the look of the larger tire but don't want to upset my tranmission too much.

I don't think they can do it on a 2011+ but may be able to do it on a 2009-10 ?? On a 2011+ they can only choose from OEM available sizes, meaning what was available on your truck. If you don't have a Raptor, then Raptor size tires were not available on your truck from the factory. Therefore , they will not show up as a selectable size.

Are you gonna flash the computer to tell you have bigger tires and correct the Speedo? That should solve any shift point issues.

the 285 were only slightly taller than my stock so i just stuck with that. the 3.55 handle it well. but i have 10ply tires so there a little slow to start rolling. when i bought my truck they didnt have any 3.73 (which is what i wanted)

Meet me in Kansas and we can swap wheels and tires. You can have my 285/70R17 and I will relieve you of those pesky 315s. I have 3.73 so mine will be happy...

I've been looking at 285s and they would fit without a level but I love the look of the 315s. Completely torn here.

Getting the basic tuner to adjust for tire size will make sure the CPU knows when to shift the trans and also correct your speedo. At that size, it would be a good investment. I think the basic programmer from Hypertech that only does wheels and gears is under $200. It is also offered as a service at some Ford dealerships for around $100 I have heard. Being sure your shift points are good is not a bad idea....

If I kept the 35s would a tuner with custom tunes help my 3.55 rear end? I had 35s on my '05 and while I did notice a little power loss (to be expected) it was mainly the shifting that started to bother me. Would a tuner help with that?
If you can't tell I'm really trying to justify these 35s
flamehead16 - Do you have a photo of your truck with the 285s and no level?
