suspected bs on mpg threads

hi all, 2010 platinum screw 4x4 with 3.55 rear, 3200 miles on her so far. 1st, before the, well its a truck, who cares about mpg start, i dont care, never did.
with that out of the way, ive read the thousands of posts on here about mpg, what will i gain from X Y Z performance upgrades etc. i began to get curious when guys on here were making these very high mpg claims, and i thought, could this awesome truck i bought also get killer mpg, regardless of the rating on the window sticker? i think not.
so at 1500 miles i kept track useing the spread sheet shotgun layed out. (thanks shotgun)
i drive mostly highway with a bit of around town. the best im seeing is 14.65 ave to a full tank. again ill say 75% highway.
now, how do it drive? boring. 70-75 on the highway under 2k rpms, and slow around town. i dont accell fast from a dead stop. very boring i know!
dont get this post wrong, im not complaining, and the day i buy something with an msrp of 51000.00, and care about mpg, somebody shoot me!
i just need to know how in the hell guys on here claim to be getting 18- 20 mpg? unless guys do 50 mph everywhere and leave that part out!! thanks all!!

Yeah, the only time i can get it to 18+ is if i reset it while driving on the interstate, and keep at that speed not stopping and having to start up again. At 65, the truck meter (I know, not accurate) says around 21 - 21.5, at 75 it says 19 - 20, and at 85 (the interstate i drive is 80mph limit) it drops down to 18 - 19. If i just drive normally, about half and half highway/streets, i average around 15.5 (calculated) shows 15.9 on display though. And i have the 4.6L 3v, XLT, 2wd supercrew...so yeah, when i see super high claims, they are questionable.

Shoot, if you just get to 55, reset at 55, on cruise, you can get it to show 99 for a few seconds, so hey, 99mpg it is!!!

Well, I have no idea why mine is so good. I really wasn't expecting it. My new F150 has settled into 18-19 MPG average and I've got 1,000 miles on the odometer now.

My Tundra used to get 14-15 MPG. Yet, other Tundra guys were claiming 19 and I also wondered how they were getting those numbers.

It seems that some trucks get better mileage than others. Driving style is only part of it I think. Temperature, altitude, quality of fuel, tires, even the shift points that the tranny has learned all come into play. Maybe there's even a variance in manufacturing that causes some to get better than others.

I don't know, but all I can say is I'm getting 18-19 right now.

well i've had the truck for almost a week and here is my driving:

about 70% highway between 60-70 mph (aound 1300-1700rpms) with cruise control on. and the other 30% is a 55mph zone but with stop lights and nomal traffic. So far i'm averaging 19.5mpg. But i've got 3.31 gears and the 6 speed auto on the 5.4

truck all stock, flat newjersey roads, regular fuel as required by owners manual

that's odd; I do mostly city driving, maybe around 50-55mph, with 3.55's as well, and I've been steady at about 18.5mpg

but, I also have the 4.6l 3v, not the 5.4 that's in your Plat... and it's only 2wd, so that saves a few hundred lbs of mechanical parts too... maybe that's the difference, I dunno

I just went to Ohio and back from NC in my 2010 Lariat 4x4 Screw and the computer on each fill-up (3) said between 18.2-18.6. Actual calculated out came in almost exactly 1MPG worse in real world (.96-.93MPG). Around town I'm getting mid to high 15s. So mid to high 17s on the highway and mid to high 15s on mixed city/hwy driving. These aren't BS claims (if I was going to lie I'd claim the 18-20 you see elsewhere) but real world numbers.

I have a tonneau and only 3600mi on my truck so we'll see what happens over time but I'm not disappointed. My sticker was only $45k but I subscribe to your same logic. :)

4.6L, 3v 2wd w/3.55. Average is 75-80% highway, range is 19-21 depending on how heavy my foot is when starting from a light. Honestly though if you are doing all of that you should be getting better too though with the 5.4L 3v, even with the 4wd. I realize that the window sticker is not exact, but mine did say 21 with the smaller print saying 16-25 highway. What was the range on yours?

'10 STX 2wd Scab, 4.6 3v w/ 3.31's

Mostly around town and in traffic speed limit is 55, lots of redlights. I rarely get on the interstate unless going other than to work and back. Driving normal - 2500~ rpms out of 1st ect I stay around 18.5 to 18.7 on the computer. I tried to take it easy for a tank and got 19 on the nose, hand calculated.

I know if I drove it for a long trip ect on the interstate it would easily get 20 or better if I stayed with the speed limit.
