Default Survey - EcoBoost Noise on Startup

Would be GREAT if this thread did not contain comments or discussions - we can do that in other threads. I'd just like to see how many EcoBoost's have that weird "rattle" on startup (see links below for the EXACT sound). I'm just curious how many have symptom, how many don't, how many had catastrophic failures believed to be related, etc.

I'm a little over 2 years into my vehicle - buying it off my lease end (aka making payments) - and trying to reassure myself to keep it or just dump it sooner than later (and take a small hit now as opposed to time, money & aggravation later if it blows up). Really curious how many "high mileage" EcoBoost's that have had symptom but no other real negative issues too. The results of this thread may help sway my decision to hound my dealer to first - acknowledge the issue, and second, to throw fixes at it (if any even exist yet), do nothing, or high tail it to another vehicle...

Thanks to all who participate and stick to the reply format!

Please provide the following information - I'll go first:

Year: 2013
Estimated Mileage When Notice: 24,000
Current Mileage: 49,5000
Dealer Attempted Fix? No / No Problem Found
If above "Yes", what was attempted: N/A
Was Problem Completely Fixed? N/A
Catastrophic Failure? N/A
Comments: <1 or 2 brief sentences if desired please>

Mine has done it once since I bought it (owned it for a year now). It had sat for a week and it was around -20 when I started it. It rattled for a few seconds and then it went away.

Year: 2013

Estimated Mileage When Notice: 55,000 kms

Current Mileage: 105,000 kms

Dealer Attempted Fix? Yes

If above "Yes", what was attempted: Replace Timing Chain (12hours, warranty)

Was Problem Completely Fixed? Was for a while. Started again around 95,000kms.

Catastrophic Failure? N/A

Comments: First dealer claimed they could not replicate the sound. Brought to Summit ford in Etobicoke, ON and they took it in for repair right away. Fixed the problem but after a while issue has come back. Have to go in and see them again, hopefully they will honour warranty passed my 120,000kms seeing as its reoccurring!

If above "Yes", what was attempted: Replaced guilds and tensioners

Comments: Dealer said they could not replicate the problem over the two days they had the truck recently. I even provided a video but they said they had to replicate the problem. I have had multiple issues with this truck and got tired of wasting time bringing to the dealer to fix whatever was wrong (every few months). Worst vehicle I have ever owned.........I fixed the problem......traded the truck. If I were you I would not keep it outside the warranty.

Interesting you say that, i was at the dealer yesterday looking into a new vehicle because I've been running into problems too. It's a shame.

What is out there on the 2011 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost timingchain failure? This is getting to be a big problem for Ford with the yearsgoing by and customers getting 80 to 90K on their trucks.

I had this issue since 83K brought back to dealershipthey flashed computer the first time. Then back at 86K the second time and was told:
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON - SEE ATTACHED NOTE
TEST FOR CODES, P0016:00-EC PCM CRANKSHAFT
POSITION CORRELATION BANK 1 SENSOR A
P0172:00-68 PCM SYSTEM TOO RICH BANK 1
CHECK FOR TSB - REFER TO 15-0044
PRIMARY TIMING CHAIN WEAR
FORD WILL NOT HELP TOWARDS REPAIR.

Now at 96k I cannot even drive it. It runs so ruff Iam afraid it will blow up. I have written several letters to Ford and this isthe latest response

I owned an early build 2011 for 3.5 years and a 2014 for almost 2 years and have never experienced the start up noise.
