Default Is this suppose to be like this?

So I was under my truck today and I noticed under my rockers a series of 1.5" holes that have been covered in like a nylon tape. Does anyone else have this?

Just curious, I am the second owner so anything could have been possible. I wonder why they would cover it in tape, and the purpose of it. I guess if it wasn't taped it would fill with dirt. Some pieces are coming off.

As ST_FX4 / mbullock noted ... NORMAL.

They're holes to allow for the step bar/running board/etc. attachment/mounting hardware.

They're covered-up on the assembly line if step bars/running boards/etc. aren't to be installed.

Dewitj1 ... Some pieces are coming off.
NORMAL. And to be expected as age and mileage add-up.

Aren't really intended to seal the holes. If that was the case plugs would be a more betterer option.

Weird, what else would you mount in these holes, because I have running boards.

Agree. I imagine that it helps keep water/ice out of the bottom of the doors.

I wish I could get some of that tape. It is some sticky stuff!

Are you the original owner?

Do you have the original window sticker?

Thought being - They were added-on by the original/previous owner | dealer installed.
