You mentioned dogs in cages. I went with the screw for that reason. Measure your clear space behind the front seats once you have them in your comfortable driving position and compare that to your cage dimensions. I can get a "large" crate in the back of the cab with pretty much no room to spare. I'm by no means a tall guy so my drivers seat is only about halfway back. A lot will depend on the size of your dogs. I have two German Shepherds and a Belgian Malinois and the big Shepherd won't fit in the crate. Hope you have little guys...or are not averse to a canopy.

I went from a supercab to a supercrew and I am so happy I did! The extra room is just awesome! Plus for the rare times I do haul 2 or more people it makes everyone more comfortable. Plus my dog likes having more room.

You won't regret getting the bigger cab.
Went from an 05 supercrew to 13 supercab. Wanted the 6.5 bed without the extra length of the supercrew to navigate parking lots. In a pinch I can get the kids in the back seat and I think the supercab looks better.

The supercrew back seat was huge, and if you regularly have passengers it's a no brainer. I may use the back seat 1/20 so supercab for me.

All my trucks have been Supercab Fords. The issues with the 1/2 doors on the supercab that everyone has mentioned are true, but my needs are fairly simple so I'm not as inconvenienced as someone who is regularly carrying passengers, cargo that won't fit in the front seat, etc.

Single, no kids, rarely carrying passengers (all my friends/family know I don't have a 4 door truck and never ask me to drive saves me gas!) and when I do pick up groceries they all fit in the front seat or passenger side floor board.

I do like the longer bed, I've installed a tool box in the back and still have plenty of room to carry larger items with the tailgate up. I've always liked the look of the supercabs, completely personal preference. The extra room and doors on a supercrew would just be extras that I'd never use.

I bought the supercab 2 weeks ago. All my trucks have been supercabs, never owned a crewcab. My big reason was I wanted an STX and need a 6.5 bed. Plenty of room in the back seat for passengers. That being said, not sure there's enough room for an adult size dog kennel. I'd bring a tape measure with you when you go looking.

X2
All of my of my trucks since 1992 have been Scabs because I've never had the need for a Screw. Before 92 all my trucks were regular cabs. I only have passengers in the back once or twice a year and they are comfortable so the rear suicide doors aren't an issue for me. I also prefer the look of the Scabs but that is just my preference. I would rather have the 6.5' bed without having a longer truck (Screw w/6.5' bed). However IF I frequently had passengers in the back I'd have a Screw. But I don't, so I don't need one or want one.
But it sounds like the OP might be better off with a Screw.

Adult sized dog kennel will not fit in a supercab. I have tried.

I never shopped the Scew because of the bed size so don't know what the deal difference would have been. Now other that needing a 8 foot bed I would say,,, I would rather have way to much room in the back than sometimes not having enough!
Beautiful truck, I love it! All the Scab 8' ers I see are always white xls.

I got the scab for the same reasons you mentioned, that and I tend to use my truck more as a truck than a passenger car and the added length of the bed without an extended wheel base makes parking a bit easier. If I wanted to haul around 5 or more people comfortably I would have kept my 7 passenger Explorer.
