Default Sunroof problems

Brought my 2012 FX4 in to the dealership today because my sunroof is making an awful clanking and popping noise when opening and/or closing. After the truck being there 6 hours they told me it was going to cost a little over 2k to replace the whole slide assembly. FML, guess I wont be using my sunroof anymore.

You can buy a repair kit at sunroofdr.com for about $130. There are numerous threads in here about how to make the repair. Took me and another guy about 3 hours to do mine. It is good as new now.
Ford does not sell the individual parts - only the complete assembly.
If you decide to make the repair, I can help you with some details.

Make sure you keep the tracks lubricated and try to not open the sunroof if you get below or close to freezing temps, the lil plastic pieces get brittle unfortunately.
I keep the tracks lubed on mine and keep fingers crossed every time I open in the summer haha.

If you do need the repair route if you need a motor or cables the headliner will most likely have to come out, which isn't too bad but is easiest if you have someone to help as to not bend the headliner trying to do it solo

What's the best way to lubricate the rails?
