Default Sunroof broke - what are my options?

Hey guys,

My old man took my truck the other day because I needed his and accidentally hit the sunroof on the warning height thing that dangles from the ceiling in a parking garage. I told him it would fit because I take it to the same parking garage but on the opposite side - but apparently they are different. Took the sunroof off today to see what was busted and this was the verdict.

My question is, can I replace just this piece, or do I have to replace the whole track?

No clue how to fix it, other than I've heard it can get spendy quick. Me? I owned my truck for close to 5 years and have never opened the sun roof- just for fear of this.

That's REALLY cutting it close to trashing a lot more. The window only raises a couple inches. You might want to be more selective in parking garages. Measure your exact height, etc. I cut my antenna down about 4", now it is just a couple inches above the cab roof. Makes a great early warning device if I fail to have my brain working properly. (which seems to happen all the time)

I second sunroofdoctor.. I replaced the track in my 04.. giant pain in the **** but will save you $1k over taking it to a dealer. not sure if you can replace that part without dropping/pulling the headliner (doubt it), but if you do need to drop the headliner make sure you wear rubber gloves and change them often.

yeah, not technically "difficult", just a pain in the butt removing and reinstalling the headliner and figuring out how the track works (my whole track system was falling apart).. and I had a little bit of issue getting it properly realigned in my '04, but eventually got it to seal right. it's been a few years but I believe it took me a few hours. I don't know if the tracks work the same in the 09-14 as they did in the 04-08 or not.

Thanks for the comments, I'm just going to go ahead and replace both tracks while I have the sunroof apart. The sunroof wasn't even open at the time, probably would have done more damage if it was. Fortunately I have only been in a parking garage 5 or so times in the 20+k miles I've had my truck so I'm not too worried about it happening again.

Certainly won't be fun fixing it...I'll keep you guys posted

I just had the the same thing to mine I hit the tilt button to close the back window and it broke. I was lucky I was still in the garage. I'm planning on repairing mine.
