Idk where the motor is located, it could be in that space?
This is exactly what I was thinking of doing. How much room is there behind that to mount the switches? Did the wiring or switches protrude into the sunglass holder? Did you just cut the headliner out for the switch panel?
With the angle of the head liner where i mounted the switches there was plenty of room, the wires did not touch the inner part of the glasses holder. the glasses holder just pops out, then there is a plastic piece which holds that panel into place, typical metal pins ford uses everywhere. two screws to remove the inner piece, then to get that out, remove the two sun visor clips closest to the panel, the headliner will drop a few inches, enough to easily remove and work on everything up there.

One thing I have to do is add a dimmer; at night the blue lights are a tad too bright for my liking. I tried to find a dimmer from the dash, cd player other wires, but nothing worked.

Edit: Had some pics

Ya man, that looks sharp, great place for it. If only oem style bulk switch panels were made, that would look stock.

ahh ok, Umm towards the front theres a bunch of structure...

You can see the two screws hold the plastic retainer in, its decently sturdy. I don't remember noticing anything, but that doesn't mean its not there.

Those mount points may be there in the reg cab, i think its part of the structural member going across. Only one way to find out for sure

Thanks YellowFinii! Pardon me, but I have a ton of questions.
  • How did you go about cutting the headliner?
  • How did you mount the panel to keep it securely attached?
  • Can you tell us more about these panels? What sizes to they come in? Do they come with blanks switch covers for expansion? Any documentation links would be great.
  • Based on your knowledge of the products they make, is there anything that would mount well in place of the gunglasses holder? My biggest concern is keeping a flush factory look. I've been considering maybe permanently seizing up the holder so that it becomes a mounting base. Any other ideas would be appreciated!

Edit: I'm going to take a look in the morning, but just don't think sunroof models have the same space on the hump there like you do.
