Default Sudden loud metal/metal grinding

Noticed this while taking coworkers out to lunch today around the city. At first, I thought it was a clunker that was driving in front of me.

At only 22k miles, I would think the brakes would be fine. But then the noise happens while just cruising.

Now I am worried to even take it on the highway.

Thoughts? (Non mechanical guy here)

Dealership will probably blame it on the aftermarket wheels & tired and resist covering it under warranty.

It could also be a stone stuck in your brakes. Does it change sounds when you apply the brakes?

That's my guess after 35 years as a mechanic.

Videos was during cruising with no brake.

I did go through a small stretch of mud the other day in 4HI. But that was back on Sunday. No noise since until today.

Been through wash and no shortage of bumps in the road. Maybe that wedged an existing stone in versus knocking it out?

Dealer offered to take care of it. Also suspected a rock. Instead I took the local/bumpy route and prett sure I knocked it out. No noise for like 10 minutes after so I went to the car wash and power washed the wheel area good before going home.

Thanks for quick response guys. I was worried it was something major that broke or was breaking!

I was going to guess a rock as well. Sounded like nails on a chalk board!

I had it happen to me several years ago. All of a sudden while driving through town it sounded like hell. Draws a LOT of attention. I was relieved to find it was only a stone wedged in there.

Yeah, had that same thing happen to me a while back after driving through some mud behind my parents' house; it scared the crap out of me. Hasn't happened since. LOL
