A week or so ago when I noticed it on our first warmish morning, I could also smell it outside the vehicle. I plan on involving the dealer as soon as we get enough warm days/nights to reproduce the problem.

Overnight, my truck sits on a slight incline (front higher), and the morning start is when I smell the odor. During the day at work, it sits level. I don't smell it when I come out of work. It's possible the overnight position has something to do with potential fluid migration.

Thanks crystal. I've already involved my dealer. They kept it for the whole day on Wednesday. They weren't able to verify the source of the smell. It's quite aggravating

I did some testing this morning and found the smell ONLY comes from the 2 driver's side vents (left of steering wheel & left of radio). The 2 passenger side vents smell 100% normal.

Is anyone here familiar with the vent routing behind the dash to know what this might mean?

I'll try that tomorrow morning. It's hard to test things because it only happens after it sits a while (overnight, at work, etc.) and only lasts for 30 seconds before it goes away.

Same smell with recirculate turned on. DEFINITELY stronger from driver's side vents...can't really smell it at all in passenger side vents. Getting it looked at Monday, as my third brake light is also full of water.

Hi All,

I found this thread by accident last night and have been experiencing a similar smell as well. '13 screw, 9k miles, March made a year of ownership. Remote start also installed from the dealer. I noticed it about a month ago on occasion but is happening more frequently over the last week. I have a 6 minute ride to work and the smell lasts the whole time not just 30 seconds like some others are experiencing. I have yet to contact my dealer being unsure how to explain the symptoms. I will monitor this thread the next couple days for any new news and contact my dealer later in the week and try to explain it or even have my service guy read this thread.

Could it be possible that you are smelling the "packing" or mill slag on the internals of the pipe and muffler in the resonator or muffler on the truck? I noticed it on my truck when I changed the oil at 1k. Reminded me of the smell of new exhaust. It especially reminded me of the new exhaust system I put on a new Harley Davidson a few years ago. If your truck, car, whatever is sitting and idling from the remote start it is possible that the fumes from the exhaust are be pulled in through the HVAC system.

If there is any doubt in your mind that the exhaust is not right take it to the dealer asap.

Just a possible suggestion.
