So instead of reading 360 responses, what is the common problem? I have that smell in mine aswell, and the dealer I go to has never had a truck in there with the complaint of a bad smell. I would like to go there with some info, I see a evap that a few have found to be the problem

I'm going in next Monday for an oil change and to have my dealer take a look at this problem. I'm not sure if Weisleder Ford in NJ has dealt with this issue before but I do hope something can get fixed so it goes away permanently. Besides the annoyance factor I'm sure its not good to be breathing in whatever is coming out of the vents.

I had my deodorize done a few weeks ago and the smell is slowly getting stronger again. It never went away 100%. I will have to take it back to the dealer.

No one knows for sure, but a replacement of the evaporator does seem to solve the problem. There has been one (or two?) proven leaks, but that doesn't mean that all are leaking. We'll have to wait until some people are forced to do it out of warranty outside of a dealer and crack open a smelly evaporator or two to find out for sure.

I've been told there is two different issues going on but I'm not a mechanic so I can't confirm one or another. Explanation #1 is a leak in the evaporater an #2 it's mold building up on the evaporater which can be averted by turning your AC off a couple blocks from home and setting the fan to high and re-circulate air setting.

Sounds like a bit of pain and telling my wife to do this the few times she drives it also a pain. I've never had to do this with previous vehicles so yeah. In my case the smell arrived in the spring after a harsh cold winter with no useage of AC maybe it took 8 months for this smell to develop?

Either way it's evap leakage Chemicals or mold you are breathing as far as I know. Neither are good I'm sure.

I will be happy to assist, flyingpostman. Please send the current odometer reading of your vehicle. I’ll look into it.

My 2013 has 5500 miles on it. And it has the smell. I have been testing the air from the registers with my electronic refrigerant detector. I test the air a few times per day and the sniffer has never gone off. The A/C still blows as cold as it did when new so I highly doubt that there is a leak anywhere in the system. A refrigerant leak will be there whether the system is on or not. This morning I parked the truck with the front slightly down hill and left it run with the A/C on for over twenty minutes. There was not a drop of water that came out of the condensate drain. Someone in this thread said that the drain is right behind the right side of the motor. It is easy to see and if that is it, mine was bone dry. I wonder where the water went. The carpet is not wet.

I just dropped my truck off tonight at my dealer for this problem and an oil change. Service rep remembered the truck from last time and that they didn't find anything wrong but did share with me they've seen this problem before. Apparently they found no leaks on another customers truck and replaced the heater core. He told me that didn't seem to solve the issue either.

I have my fingers crossed that the drain on mine is clogged. Not really looking forward to having my dash ripped apart. I'm afraid the truck will turn into a rattle box.

Have you had your dealer perform an inpsection, Big Muskie? I want to loop in your regional customer service manager as well. To make that happen, PM me your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership.

I’ll be happy to assist, Commeeche. Since your first visit at the dealer hasn’t been conclusive, I recommend seeking a second opinion. Feel free to choose other dealers, as they are owned and operated independently. To locate one, click on this: http://www.ford.ca/dealerships/locate/ Please get back to me with the dealer info and booking arrangements; I’ll loop in your customer service manager.
