I've got something similar happening to me as well, sort of an "industrial" smell coming from the top vents. Just started recently. Truck is just over 1 year old.

After more observation, the smell is definitely coming from the vents. Here in Ohio I'm still primarily using the defrost in the early hours going to work but haven't tried the other settings yet. I thought initially it might be related to the remote start, but I get it with regular key start as well. I stopped at the dealer yesterday and had the service guy get a whiff of the smell and I now have a appointment this coming week to see if they can find anything. He said that they haven't had any complaints yet but then again this is a small town dealer. I mentioned this thread about other people experiencing similar problems so we will see what happens.

I dont have remote start and I started getting this smell on my 13, it only has 8,000 miles. Drove it for a year and it started last week and it only smells when defrost and heater are turned on. Smells like melting plastic or a electical fire smell. So it definitely has something to do with heater. I see I big recall coming. Ill be pissed if I have a fire.

Not sure if it goes away after a while like most say or I just get used to smell, but it definitely is only there ehen heater is used.

Did ford do anything different on the 13 hvac system, then on prior years, since it seems like its happening to the 2013.

Mine just started this to. Mine is garaged at nite, I thought it may be pulling in some start up smell in through the vents. I only notice it when garaged.

Mine seems to be getting worse. I thought it was remote start but it happens every time I start the fan on. I'll definitely be bringing it back to the dealer.

My 2013 FX4 started putting out a smell about month ago too. Around 12-13,000 miles on it. Factory remote start. To me, it smells like band aids.

Mine seems to be coming out all the vents. Didn't do it this winter, it's only been happening since the weather has started to warm up but it didn't have is smell last summer. I have remote start too, but it happens when I don't use remote start. I'm not sure what that would have to do with it. I bought this truck in early 2013. Platinum model.
