A Strange Clunk
 

Alright I'm going to do my best to describe whats been going on, maybe someone can shed some light on this.

My truck (see sig) has been making a strange clunking noise coming from what I perceive as the rear end, while going over bumps at low speeds.

A typical scenario would be backing into the driveway after getting home from work. Driving forward down the street, come to a full stop, shift into reverse, get the normal noises and shudders as the drive train shifts into reverse. So now I let off of the brake and at not much more than idle speed back into the drive way...as soon as my rear wheels go over the concrete that divides the street and the drive way I get a faint "clunk clunk" from the rear end.

The truck drives straight as an arrow without any shuddering, I cannot replicate the sound from standing on the rear bumper and working the rear suspension.
It was in the shop 8 months ago or so with leaking rear shocks (replaced under warranty) but the clunking issue persists. It has 47,000 km's on it.
My next guess is the coveted 2 piece drive-shaft "slip bump" TSB.
Maybe someone can offer some different thoughts.

Bed bolts not tight enough?

I realigned my box and impacted bolts back on. A month or so later I was getting a noise over bumps. I tried finding the source for a month. Even pryed berween box and frame, nothing. Bought a set of Torx Plus sockets and decided to try on box with a ratchet. I got a extra turn out of all them. Noise gone.

Could or could not be you issue.

I have an 09 F150 and I have the same "clunk", when pulling into or out of a driveway. I'm pretty sure the clunk is coming from the leaf springs on my truck. If I get a little bit of time tomorrow I'm going to try to lubricate the shims on the springs tomorrow.

I looked and they seem to be dry between them. If I get time to do this I'll post back here what I did and used to try and fix it. (I'm a Honda tech for 19 years so I do all my own repairs) ..

Well seeing as how the post is only a few days old and only a few opinions have been given, a post of what you had done instead of "if you're still looking for an answer" would have been better....

So spill it.

Braking system? Pads/ E-brake shoes shifting?

spare tire loose?
Jack not secured in cab?
Dead people in bed?

OK ...so the noise is from the leaf springs..if you look at the shims on the end of the springs above the shims ... if you see rust thats the noise.

I used a scotch brite pad to clean off the rust, then used Permatex Prussian Blue grease to lubricate them. Apply the grease to the spots where the rust was. The Permatex is thick and should be water resistant for quite a while.

use a pry bar to separate the springs

use an acid brush or brush thats thin to apply permatex... apply it to the area where the rust was and on the shim

The noise is all gone.. you don't need a lift to do this, a floor jack is fine, and lift the truck just enough to unload the springs. You can reach the spring ends from in front and in back of the wheels..
