That's pretty lousy they tried to charge you!
Can't tell me they weren't aware it was a warranty item.
This is again, a great example of how invaluable this forum can be.

I would think the minute they put the VIN in their system it should tell them if it's under warranty, shady for sure! The y pipe should probably be covered too, but who knows.

Picked up the truck, all is good again. $72 for the plastic tee after tax.
They entered my VIN wrong when they did my oil change a few weeks ago, it came back as 2011. It didn't show any warranty available, so he says. Just glad it is fixed and I am back in my truck. Hopefully another 55k before something else fails now.
Thankful for the forum and its members.

This is a prime example why I always harp on people to read the owners manual cover to cover at least once. That little book can give the owner power, knowledge is power and power is an extra $500 in the pocket instead of someone else's.
Glad I was able to catch this thread when I did, sadly I know why they tried and Ford is mostly to blame and why I no longer work as a dealer tech, they cut warranty work pay so deep the only way a tech has a chance to pay his bills is by double dipping when ever they can. I have a conscious so I quit.

10k miles ago (23k on the truck ) dealer noted that my water pump was leaking when they do their 'check over' during my oil changes. I called to question them on it (my truck gets picked up and dropped off at my work for service) and they said that it was a very minor leak, out of the weep hole I believe. At 28k it was not noted on the check over.. Now at 33k it's back on there and attached was a quote for replacement. ($150 for the parts, $180 for labor I believe).
I have not seen any fluid drop over the last 10k miles, nor any dripping. Is this something I should get replaced or keep rolling with it for now? My main concern is my wife/son getting stranded if it decided to crap out on me.
Truck is a salvage so no warranty.

If I told one of my guys to go to the job and fix something I didn't do correctly, (or in their case someone sleeping on the assembly line, 10 states away) and oh by the way it's a warranty item. So I'm only paying you half what you make normally per hour. I wouldn't have any employees.
Maybe that's why I'm in the working hard everyday, middle class, and not sitting on a boat south of France.
I do sleep well at night as well, so how much is that worth..
Another stand-up contribution, to the thread Comp.

Why is it, that the tech gets stuck with reduced pay because it's a warranty item? Or moreover, how are they allowed to get away with it?

This has resulted in dealers being staffed with young go getters that are so wet behind the ears they are thrilled to get a dealer job and the tech's with a life time of experience and training jump ship.
If you would like to learn more about it just head over to the forums of www.flatratetech.com and it won't take long to understand.
Some dealers will specifically hire newbs to do the warranty work with help from seasoned tech's. The tech doing the warranty work does not have to be the one certified so long as a certified tech is on the payroll.
Some dealers don't give a crap and let the experienced tech's go and more or less flip a coin hoping the newb will catch on fast at the expense of customer satisfaction.

Ford calls it SLTS, service labor time standards, they have some super tech in a secret shop buried under some mountain on the moon that can turn a wrench 3x faster on every job.

If I had any doubts that the world becoming more selfish and cutthroat (and I didn't)... That certainly just confirmed it.
