Default stolen tailgate

Hi

I haven't been here for a while but thought this could be helpful to fellow f150 owners

My 2009 fx4 tailgate was stolen last friday, and it was locked (my 2006 dodge ram tailgate with no key lock was stolen a few years ago so I'm really careful about this)

Anyways, all they did was pry the door and stole my locked tailgate, leaving me with a nice thousand dollars bill

I live in a pretty fancy suburb, and this ruined my day, so get your hands on a tailgate lock asap and don't rely on the POS ford lock

Worse part, my insurance co says i didnt have a keylock on my 09 fx4. im looking for old hunting and fishing pictures now to prove them wrong !

How does your insurance company say that? Talk about idiots! I guarantee its listed in the truck specs. Get a letter from Ford stating it had one as all them made did! But that does suck. Sorry to here that!

i agree with Rok...call the dealership and get them to fax you the info...then cancel your insurance and find a better company.

As I always say.....Mean People Suck, goes double for tailgate theives. I am getting my locking tonneau cover (Leer 700 series) with the locking remote installed....should be in tomorrow or Friday. In addition (for my convenience) I will probably put a 12v actuator hooked into the door locks to ensure that the tailgate itself is locked every time the car is locked.

That said, I am also going to put the "nuts and bolts" retainers (as covered in other posts on the forum) on the tailgate hinge so it will be more than a 30 second effort to remove the door, even if they bust the lock like they did on yours. Replacement cost for a 2011 with camera is around the $2-2.5K mark, and body shops will pay $600-700 to thieves, no questions asked....Craigs list is full of anxious tailgate sellers too!!

Many of us carry $1K deductable so that is a cool grand out of our pocket, even if insurance covers the rest. NOTHING can totally prevent the theft, but damn if I am going to make it a walk in the park for a would-be thief....smile.

I am sorry if I am missing something here?? I do not understand what they did, to get your [locked] tailgate off the truck?? What "door" did they "pry"?

Keep an eye out for it on your local craigslist (will be posted within a couple days). if u find it..then go get it back! go with a baseball bat (peacefully of course ), cops wont do anything and u'll waste your chance waiting for them

heres the picture I took a few minutes after I realized what happened, I had a truxport tonneau cover on my truck. The thieves used a crowbar to pry the cover and then open the locked tailgate, they did minimal damage to the truck...

I dont sell tailgate locks or tonneau covers ... I just wanted to let you know : do not rely on the ford factory lock. Ruins a weekend like you can't imagine ! Especially when you get the bill for a new tailgate !

My insurance company says my truck didn't have the tailgate lock. I Know that early 2009 f150s didnt have a locking tailgate ... but I'm not too worried, since mine had one and I have old pictures of my truck + internet info to prove it. My insurance compny wont be able to BS me for long. Just wish this never happened.
