Default stock speaker replacement recommendations

Completely stock system on a '12 FX4 now sounds like total crap - I'm guessing the front door speakers are blown. Not sure why the stock amp would be able to overpower them, but since it sounds terrible no matter the source, it seems the most logical explanation.

So I just need a bolt-on alternative that will fit behind the stock grills with the least fuss. Presuming its been thrashed to death here somewhere ... what's the short version?

Congrats to all you doodz with underseat speaker and amp setups, but I'm just looking for whatever will fit in the stock configuration.

Kenwood and Pioneer make direct fit speakers for it. They'll be marked Ford/Mazda on the box. I'd go with the pioneers. When I put the aftermarket deck in my 05 I initially used Kenwood speakers. Within 8-9 months I started having issues with the drivers failing. I'd notice a dead speaker at lower volume, but it would cut back in when I turned it up. I've had the Pioneers for 2 years now and all is good.

I second the Pioneers. And crazily, you can usually find sets at Walmart for pretty solid prices.

For a comprehensive list of speakers that fit, check out Crutchfield. Use their website to get the model numbers and look them up on Amazon. Amazon tends to be much cheaper. However, if you buy from Crutchfield, you get free speaker wiring adaptors for the "no fuss" installs.

Many people think that you blow speakers by using an amp that is too powerful for them. While that is theoretically possible, I'd guess that over 90% of blown speakers in normal cars are due to pushing a weaker amp past its limits (not past the speakers' limits), and damaging the speakers with the distortion.

2 solutions:
Put in more powerful amps.
Turn it down.

I went with Polk Audio and couldn't be happier, price is low, sound great, bolt right up and are marine rated so the water that does find it's way inside the doors does them no harm, unlike the oem paper sound cones that can't handle the moisture and you wind up with exactly what you have.

Here's a link to them,

You may also wish to get 2 packs of adapters so you don't have to butcher the oem harness to connect them,

Did mine 4 years ago and they still sound great and I regularly crank my stereo up.

I'm not an audiophile but I wanted some output that was going to be impressive and I ended up going with some 2 way JBLs and I gotta say I'm a little disappointed.

It's definitely better, but I think most of that came from the head unit install. In retrospect I wish I would have gone with component speakers.

Another thing some people don't realize is that you don't want your 6x9s driving your lows and aftermarket speakers are designed to deliver better high and midranges, while the stock speakers are designed to be a jack of all trades, which is part of why they suck.

So realistically if you want to do it right you'd add a sub to take care of the lows and keep it sounding clean and set up a low pass filter to separate the spectrums.

I replaced my front doors with 2-way Kenwood speakers. I'm just running them off the stock stereo, while the sound is clearer, the bass is gone. The stock speakers how more bass sound but vocals always sounded muffled. I think i just need to add a sub.
