stock radio without nav to stock with nav

As the title says. How difficult would this be to do? Looking at used trucks and want one with navigation. Problem is most dont have it. Would it be worth doing the swap or just buy a stand alone nav. Done some searching and havent found an absolut answer. Thanks in advance.

Get a. Nice Magellion and save a ton. Ford only charges $169 to update nav. Glad I held on to my Magellion cause I will never pay to update my nav.......

Can't find it now, but there is a company that sells plug and play upgrades. It depends which year and which level of trim you have whether or not it will work. I am going to try searching to find it or maybe someone else will remember and post it.

I understand wanting to keep the factory look. I really do.

But I should point out that a portable GPS is way cheaper, probably more accurate, probably has more features and probably also has free lifetime updates and traffic. But again, it's tough to beat that clean factory look.

If you're trying to upgrade to a 13/14 mft I'd just go aftermarket. There was a thread not too long ago about trying to add mft nav and it was rather in depth.

I added an advent in dash unit to my 13. I also got sirius radio and a b/u camera. It has an 8 inch screen. I love it. I bought a stand alone nav with a 4" screen for my daughter. I like the features of hers better, but I still prefer the bigger screen and the other features. One reason the indash costs more is your getting more than just nav. If I were to do it again, I'd still get an in dash unit, but I'd probably get pioneer system. They have newer technology and more connectivity features

I bought one of the higher end Garmin navs, with a pretty big screen, lifetime map upgrades, and a backup camera. I permanently mounted the mounting base to my dash. Could not be happier.

Do you just want navigation?

Do you have a smartphone?

One other comment. Don't know what years you're looking at but the 2013 Nav seems better than the 2010-12 Nav system which I had in my SHO. Also the 2013 up is cheaper to upgrade to NAV from the 8" MFT screen than buying an entire radio like I posted above.

If you haven't seen them before check out Lasco Ford. They're a bit of a drive but the young sales guy I had was great. Hadn't been in the business long enough to BS people so he was a straight shooter.

Some f150s came with mft, but not nav. If this is the case you'll need the apim reprogrammed to your vin, nav card, and an antenna. The programming can be done by a guy online for $565 with a card. He also sells complete refurbished/used units on eBay ready to install for $900. From what I understand this would only be for the radio function and nav.
